The uncalled selection of Devendra Fadnavis (Deputy Chief Minister of BJP-Shiv-led Maharashtra) for the Parliamentary Board has provided an immovable upstream to his political future in all aspects whereas the demotion of Nitin Gadkari (Union Minister) has become the talk of the hour. The dramatic transformation in the BJP’s Parliamentary board has sent ripples of speculation to the Maharashtra unit of the party.
In the past, Fadnavis has handled various responsibilities in terms of the Goa and Bihar elections. But adding him to Central Election Committee (CEC) has made it clear that he has a bright future when it comes to his relations with BJP. Recently, Fadnavis has been declared the leader of the ‘Maharashtra Legislative Council.’
Diminishing graph of Gadkari’s political career; demotion from Parliamentary Board
However, the circumstances are different when it comes to Nitin Gadkari. Though he is the Union Road and Transport Minister, he does not hold any post in the BJP nor is he in charge of any state. This made it clear that the political clout of Nitin Gadkari is not the same as before and had started to diminish.
It’s been a long time since Gadkari has encountered an important role. His presence in relation to BJP has deteriorated and has started to diminish with the passage of time. He was not seen in any of the major events conducted by the BJP. Be it the assembly elections of west Bengal or the elections of 5 states. His ouster however came as a surprise because there has been a tradition of including former national presidents on the parliamentary board.
This tradition broke with the removal of LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi from the Parliamentary Board. The surprise shake-up by the national party has laid various signals which are to be decoded.
In such a situation, Shivraj Singh Chauhan’s exit is understandable and people concerned could interpret his demotion. The ruling government has completely outlooked Yogi Adityanath (Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh). Interpreting his position in the party it was determined that he could probably make it to the board. But this time even he failed to mark a position.
