The incident transpired in the high-rise flats; the Jay Vasant Buildings located in the Panch pakhadi region of Thane. The Shah family was the victim of this atrocity. The case is being handled by the Naupada police department which is doing a vigorous and robust search for the mugger.
the thief has reportedly stolen valuables worth more than 10 lakh including gold articles, cash, and mobile phones.
How the incident transpired
The incident went down when only the mother, Priti Shah, 39 years old, and her 15-year-old son, Priyansh shah were home. The assailant rang the doorbell to their apartment when the 15-year-old opened the main door to witness a ‘food delivery guy’ standing there.
The delivery guy asked the teen if they have ordered any food to which the mother refused. The delivery person then requested a glass of water. While Priti shah went inside to fetch it, the son, Priyansh opened the security door which was bolted during their conversation, to let the delivery man in.
Once the delivery guy entered the premises of their residence, he instantly locked the main door and the security door to trap the two residents in. The 15-year-old son gave his best while striking back. He tried to threaten the robber with a knife but that did not work as the robber was quick enough to snatch the knife out of the teen’s hands and tuck it under his neck.
As the mother came back from the kitchen with the called for glass of water, she was flabbergasted by the sight of her young son being nabbed by this unknown man.
The accused then demanded the mother to bring him all of their prized possessions after he threatened to kill her son.
The scared mother then went inside to fetch anything and everything of any monetary value. It included some cash, gold, and both of their mobile phones which the robber snatched on his way out of the crime scene.
Aftermath of the Robbery
According to police files, the stolen gold was worth 5 lakhs with 20,000 worth of mobile phones and 5 lakh cash. An FIR against the assailant who is still at large has been registered with the Naupada police station under IPC section 392 (robbery), 452 (house trespassing with preparation to hurt), and 506 part II (threat to cause serious hurt or death).
The police are suspecting that this was a well-thought crime where the accused was stacking the family as he knew about the families’ movements. This was concluded after the mother and son duo stated to the that the mugger posed a
threat to kill their 18-year daughter if they approached the police regarding this incident.
The accused was dressed in a black t-shirt having a food delivery app logo printed on it along with a face mask which he never removed. this made the process of physical identification difficult. However, the police came across some evidence that will aid them to bring the right person to justice.
