According to Hurun Report India, Roshni Nadar Malhotra of HCL Technologies is the richest woman in the country followed by Falguni Nayar of Nykaa. She has retained her position successfully.
On Wednesday, 27 July 2022, Kotak Private Banking published the Harun report which showed a ranking of India’s wealthiest females. The list was led by Roshni Nadar, who is the chairperson of the famous IT giant, HCL Technologies. She has been in the first position for the second year in a row. The second one on the list is Falguni Nayar, the founder, and CEO of Nykaa. The third wealthiest woman in the country is Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of Biocon, she was in the second position but is now overtaken by Falguni Nayar.
Roshni’s net worth for this year has risen by 54 per cent resulting in the amount of ₹84,330 crores. She has been in the topmost position on the list for the second time consecutively. Falguni Naya’s net worth was recorded in December 2021 at ₹57,520 crores which showed a rise of 963 per cent. She is India’s richest self-made female and ranks tenth in Asia for the same. On the list, she is followed by Mazumdar-Shaw with a net worth of ₹29,030 crores.

Roshni is the chairperson at HCL Technologies which is a software company providing global services. The company was founded by Shiv Nadar, her father in 1976 with six engineers. The company in its early years made personal computers. Later it was acquired by a foreign company HCL Overseas which started HCL Technologies and HCL Infosystems in India. It is a leading company for software development in the country.
Roshni after completing her education, first at Northwestern University majoring in communications and then completing her MBA from Kellogg School of Management, worked in the industry for many years.
She experienced global industry operations by working in foreign as well as Indian companies as a producer. Later she joined HCL, and within a year she became the CEO and executive director of the company. She worked in this position for some years and was appointed as the chairperson of HCL Technologies after her father stepped down.
He is married to Shikhar Malhotra who is the vice chairman at HCL Healthcare. Apart from her professional life, Nadar is a trained classical musician; she also enjoys social work and loves to contribute to social initiatives. Before joining HCL she worked as the trustee for a non-profit organization, Shiv Nadar Foundation, Chennai.
She is the founder of a trust called ‘The Habitats’ which is set up to protect natural habitats and also aims to create and conserve sustainable ecosystems. She has also helped in arranging educational facilities for underprivileged kids.
The published list features the names of 100 Indian females and it was also reported that one-fourth of them were new entrants to the list. Collectively these women contribute 2 percent of the nation’s nominal GDP.
The total wealth accumulated by these women resulted in ₹4,16,970 crores which is higher than last year by 53 percent. According to the reports, one-fourth of the women stay in the Delhi NCR area, followed by Mumbai and Hyderabad. The list has women from all industries, including healthcare, IT, beauty, fashion, and education, and also includes professional managers.
These women have made their marks in the industry and are an inspiration for many. From founders, and directors to handling many ventures together they have been successful.
