Russia is ready to talk only if Ukraine “lays down its weapon.” This statement has been quoted by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, as reported by the news agency AFP (Agence France-Presse). Further, the Foreign Minister expressed Russia’s “hopes.” Moscow does not wish for ‘neo-Nazis’ to govern the nation of Ukraine. The only thing that Russia expects is that Ukrainians should be free and should be able to define their destiny independently. Besides this, Sergei Lavrov accused the president of Ukraine- Volodymyr Zelenskiy, of dishonesty. The latter lied about being ready to talk regarding the neutral status of the former member of the USSR. Moreover, as reported by AFP, Russia has absolutes no intentions in recognizing Ukraine as a democratic nation.
Russia “expects” India to support the Ukrainian invasion in the United Nations Security Council when a resolution condemning this act comes up. However, both India and China have abstained from voting, as reported. Amidst this, Russia informs India about the former’s desires. Further, India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, had a telephonic conversation with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and insisted on ending the violence and stressing peace. However, India’s stand continues to remain neutral on the agenda. India has not yet “specifically” condemned Russia for its actions. It has called for an immediate de-escalation on both sides (Ukraine and Russia). Ahead of the UNSC vote, the United States of America had sent a distinct message to India that called for a “collective response” against such a violation of international rule and order, on top of World peace and security jeopardy.
On Thursday, the Russian invasion of Ukraine was widely condemned and was the most significant attack on any European nation since World War 2. About 137 lives were lost on the first day of the conflict, while both the countries claimed the destruction of each other’s military capabilities. This number of casualties is on the rise as the invasion continues.
Russia has captured the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant, the site for the worst man-made disaster; the worst nuclear meltdown the world ever saw in 1986. Nevertheless, Russia continues to attack through both land and air. The invasion and destruction continue.
