The Russian invasion of Ukraine from the North, East, and South on 24-02-23 has crossed the threshold of the one-year mark, and yet none of the sides has claimed “victory”.
Today marks a year of the completion of the Russia-Ukraine war, with the death of 8006 civilians and almost 13287 injuries, according to the UN Human Data.
However, some reports claim that the culmination of both recorded and unrecorded deaths on both sides has surpassed the mark of 150,000, and injuries exceeded the mark of 300,000.
The war has cost both countries innumerable infrastructure damage and life losses. Yet, none of the sides has decided to lay the weapons down. So far, the loss is just the lives and not the fight.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, said that he had faith in his country’s military and that on the eve of the first anniversary, Ukraine would win.
He affirmed that his country did not tear itself down; they had overcome many adversities and would undoubtedly triumph. He expressed his anguish by saying that he would hold everyone accountable for bringing this evil fate to his land.
The Ukraine President warned against the missile strike that he was predicting from Russia on account of a year’s completion of the war. However, the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, was laying flowers at the graves of the Unknown Soldiers before meeting the soldiers at Red Square.
The war even crammed the superpowers with fear. It is a dark time not just in the history of Russia and Ukraine but will also go down as the historical gloom for the world economy.
With the inflating markets, the skyrocketing prices of crude oil and the crisis of food grain across countries have hinted at another economic emergency.
Russia halting the flow of gas kept Europe shuddering in winter. According to the minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee’s most recent meeting, which were made public on Wednesday, members of the committee stated that they anticipated that continuing increases in the target range would be appropriate to attain a stance of monetary policy that is sufficiently restrictive to return inflation to two percent over time.
Through its vote on Thursday, the UN demanded the immediate and unrestricted withdrawal of the Russian troops from the lands of Ukraine. More than 140 countries voted in favor of the motion; 32 countries, including India and China, abstained; and seven countries voted against the motion.
India, which has positive connections with Russia, has chosen to abstain from voting on the United Nations resolutions regarding Ukraine.
However, India has reaffirmed its commitment to the paths of “dialogue and diplomacy.” Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, described India’s approach to the conflict as “people-centric” in a speech she delivered following the most recent resolution passed by the United Nations.
Ukraine has received the first Leopard 2 battle tanks manufactured in Germany from Poland. On Friday, the USA announced an aid of $2 billion for Ukraine, featuring anti-armour Switchblade drones and laser-guided rocket systems.
According to information from a German news outlet, The Chinese drone makers are in talks with the Russian military about the possibility of mass-producing kamikaze drones for the Russian troop.
With no concerns about conversations about humane reliefs, meals, water, medicines, reconstruction of the homes, and other basic human needs, the western world is “aiding” them with weapon supplies. Surprisingly enough, any ceasefire talks are rebuffed.
