“Russia will always remember with gratitude, the contribution of India to the defeat of Nazi Germany”, said Russian Ambassador Dennis Apilov as Russia marked the 77th anniversary of Victory Day, the day when the Second World War came to an end. These statements were made by him while expressing his gratitude towards India for its unindemnified contribution to defeating Nazi Germany.
Russian ambassador calls out the doubled standards of European countries
The Russian ambassador advised all countries to be united against the “double standards” and the “hypocrisy” which is quite ubiquitous in international politics. He made it very clear that cooperation in global affairs is the only way forward and that the entire world needs to learn from the detrimental outcomes of World War 2. These statements were made by him on the occasion of ‘Victory Day, which marks the victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany in 1945. Alipov also recalled the friendship societies which were set between the two countries in 1941 and 1942 in support of the USSR.
Acknowledgment for Indian support during WW2
The diplomat also mentioned the memorial monument which was unveiled in New Delhi in the commemoration of the heroic deeds of the Indian government and military contingents during the Second World War Two Indian soldiers were also bestowed with the ‘Order of the Red Star’; the highest military award of the Soviet Union. The ambassador noted how these events have become the symbols of the historically strong bonds of the close friendship and mutual cooperation shared by the two nations. All this has also formed a strong base for the partnership between Russia and India.
The Russian ambassador asserted that Russia is completely equipped to face many threats to its national security. He emphasized that Russia’s foreign policy is focused on ensuring the maintenance of a central role of the United Nations, its charter as well as its international law which focuses on the principles of peaceful resolution of conflicts, mutual respect, collective approach, dialogue, and non-interference in mutual affairs.
In contrast many world powers, India hasn’t criticized the Russian government for its Ukrainian invasion and has abstained from voting against the Russian aggression on various international platforms.
