Sarah Jessica Parker has finally confirmed the return of John Corbett to the Sex and the City prequel. ET spoke with Parker at the Hocus Pocus 2 premiere, where she teased her SATC fans about what they can expect in the second season of the prequel, And Just Like That. Parker, who plays fashionista sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw, responded candidly when asked if Corbett, who plays Carrie’s ex, Aidan Shaw, in the HBO Max reboot, would reprise his role. “Could be, could be,” she said. “You know, I can’t keep it a secret any longer.”
According to Deadline, John Corbett will return to HBO Max’s “And Just Like That” to reprise his role as Aidan Shaw, who is set to reunite with former love Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker).Carrie and Aidan last appeared together in Sex and the City 2 in 2010. In addition, Corbett will reprise his role as the charming furniture maker in a significant multi-episode arc in the Sex and the City sequel’s second season.
John Corbett is set to return for the SATC prequel, but will he play Carrie’s lover, friend, or ex?
Before the show’s premiere in 2021, John teased his possible return, telling Page Six, “I’m going to do the show.” I believe I’ll be in a few episodes. In the original series, the actor played Aidan, a character with whom many fans believed Carrie Bradshaw should have married; instead, she married Mr. Big (played by Christopher David Noth) because he was her primary focus.

Following Mr. Big’s death, the show moves forward as Carrie’s grief causes her to rediscover life as a widow. The series took viewers on a wild ride, from Miranda’s marriage breakdown to Big’s death. Carrie laid Big to rest by scattering his ashes in Paris before meeting Samantha for a cocktail. However, the famous group of four of SATC is only left with three, and Samantha’s (Kim Cattrall) has yet to make her debut on the show, and it’s difficult to predict if she will make her debut after she denied being a part of the series ever in the future while she had disputes with Sarah.
Will the second season show Carrie in a new light now that Mr. Big is gone?
Executive producer Michael Patrick King explained to Deadline in February why Aidan didn’t appear in the season, which dealt with Carrie’s husband, Big, dying at the end of the first episode. “It just seemed like a lot to Carrie,” Patrick said. This season was extremely emotionally draining. We wanted to get her past Big’s death and into the light, so the final episode is titled “Seeing the Light.” We needed to get her out of there. Aidan’s return is a major plot point that was written by everyone at home and that we never intended.
Sarah Jessica Parker is best known for her role as Carrie Bradshaw in the show Sex And The City.
When asked about Carrie Bradshaw thinking of her late husband, Big, King said, “We wanted to focus the show on Carrie and her journey trying to release the idea of her hold on Mr. Big. Because it was a part of their past, the dream still exists. However, there was no need to show more than we did because doing so would have distracted us from the work we were doing on the actual show and from the outside chatter about why Mr. Big is or isn’t in it.
In the final seconds of the Season 1 finale, Carrie is seen kissing podcast producer Franklyn (Ivan Hernandez), indicating that she is ready to start dating again after a period of mourning.
Now that Sarah, aka Carrie Bradshaw, appears to be moving forward and leaving the past behind, fans can’t wait to see what happens in her next chapter of life. The question is whether Aidan will be the guy Carrie runs into in the second season, or if dating will be much harder for her now that Mr. Big is gone.
With Aidan’s return, SATC fans can’t help but wonder if any of the cast’s famous ex-lovers will appear in the reboot. Watch “And Just Like That” season one online via the HBO Max app.
