After a span of 3 long years, Nadella plans to visit India in January next year.
Microsoft chairman and CEO, Satya Nadella received Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in the country for his distinguished service in the field of trade and industry. He received the award in San Francisco from Indian Consul General, TV Nagendra Prasad.
Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he added that he was looking forward to working with people from all over India to help them make more use of technology. During his meeting with the Indian Consul, the 55-year-old CEO discussed the role of India in politics on a global level, the trajectory of growth, and the country’s capacity to be a global technology leader.
He further added that the next decade is going to be defined by digital technology for organizations and industries of all sizes, whether big or small are turning to technology for a better output. This will eventually lead to better agility, resilience, and innovation.
Microsoft announced Nadella as the CEO in February 2014 and was named as the Chairman of the company in June 2021.
In the same field i.e., trade and industry, the government conferred the award to Alphabet and Google CEO, Sundararajan Pichai, and Cyrus Poonawalla, Managing Director of the Serum Institute of India.
Prahlad Rai Aggarwal was conferred with Padma Vibhushan for his contribution in the field of trade and industry along with Jagjit Singh Dardi, Mukatmani Devi, and Ryuko Hira.
Announced every year on the eve of Republic Day, the Padma Awards are considered to be one highest civilian honors.
There are 3 categories of awards, namely:
Padma Vibhushan is awarded to those who perform exceptional and distinguishable services.
Padma Bhushan is for those who offer a distinguished service of the highest level whereas Padma Shri entails distinguished service. The award seeks to acknowledge accomplishments across all professions and spheres of endeavor where some aspect of public service is present.
The Padma Awards Committee, which the Prime Minister appoints annually, makes recommendations before the Padma Awards are given out.
