“After the recent allegation of sexual assault placed on the CEO of ScoopWhoop, Good Glamm Group releases an official statement.”
Workplace harassment is something that has been discussed worldwide as a crucial issue. While there has been an increase in awareness, the ways to cover it up or gain various benefits through this have become common.Â
Statistics show that more than 50% of the victims experience retaliation or opposition through violence or monetary subsidization from the opposite parties. In line with this, a shocking allegation from an ex-employee of Scoop Whoop, which a reputed company, Glamm Good owns, has caused a commotion.
After the sexual assault case filed on the company in 2017, a new issue arose, and the perpetrator is allegedly one of the six co-founders, ex-CEO Sattvik Mishra. This allegation by Samdish Bhatia, which states that this assault had taken place in October 2021, has been trending in the social media handles. It could also be why Mishra is now an ‘ex’ CEO
When did this issue start?
Samdish Bhatia is a popular host of ScoopWhoop’s well-known news and documentary channel, Unscripted. As his popularity on the show increased, Bhatia had requested a 25% equity for a future offer concerning forming a new company from ScoopWhoop and Unscripted. Sources say that Mishra offered 7.5% less than one-third of what was requested.
After this discussion, which is said to have happened with the audience of one more person, Avlok Langer, the other two had gone off home to ‘get more drinks.’
It was around his time the assault had taken place as per the alleged victim’s statement. Mishra had forcefully proposed to grant him higher equity in exchange for sexual favors. The victim also mentioned that this happened when his wife and kid were upstairs, showing the vulnerability of the situation. The next day, Mishra had sent an apology through text to Bhatia.
Despite bringing this case to the company’s internal complaint committee, Bhatia accuses that the committee had not taken it seriously. Rather, they had put various efforts into shutting him up, like offering vast sums of money, sending anonymous threats, etc.
Mishra’s side of the story:
There are two sides to a coin, and when Mishra shared his side of this story, he had blatantly denied any implications of the sexual assault. While he agrees to both of them getting drunk at that point, what happened after that, according to Mishra, was Bhatia getting angry at him for not offering higher equity. “I am Unscripted,” were Bhatia’s words, according to Mishra.
So, why did Mishra send such a sincere apology text the next day?
Here is the explanation Mishra offers for this. “I understand that with an apology like that, you can make any story, and it sounds right. But I genuinely felt really bad. Any morally upright person will apologize the next day for being a bad drunk.”
He had also added that the sole reason behind this issue is to extort money from him.
What is the situation now?
After this issue blew up, the Good Glamm Group has released an official statement to conduct an independent inquiry into the matter, which law firm Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas will oversee. In addition, Priyanka Gill, co-founder of Good Glamm Group, will be supervising the functioning of ScoopWhoop in the meantime, the company added.
What are the conclusions which one can from this?
While workplace harassment is a serious crime to be taken care of, it is also important to analyze every aspect of the issue before reaching a proper conclusion. As this issue continues to garner hate comments and threats to both the parties involved, it is essential to realize that, in the end, the ultimate goal is justice which can only be achieved with careful evaluation and solid evidence.
