District Magistrate of Ghaziabad issued Section 144
New Delhi: On Sunday, June 12, Rakesh Kumar Singh, District Magistrate of Ghaziabad issued Section 144 in the district of Uttar Pradesh, according to ANI. No meetings will be permitted without authorization, following the DM’s directive. A group of five or more cannot congregate in a public area. All sites other than houses of worship have forbidden loudspeakers. The DM has also provided guidelines for using social media, encouraging group administrators to alert the administration about rumour spouts. The ruling also stated that Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been implemented in the Ghaziabad district until August 10 in order to ensure peace and order ahead of impending celebrations and a test.
The development follows a string of violent occurrences in the state over the past two weeks related to statements made against the Prophet Mohammad by now-suspended BJP officials. On June 3, there were incidences of stone-throwing and petrol bombs being thrown during demonstrations against Nupur Sharma’s remarks about the Prophet during a TV debate.
