Famous Tamil actor Manobala passed away at the age of 69, on May 3rd 2024. Reportedly, he was admitted in a hospital due to liver problems and took his last breath in a Chennai hospital. Manobala was an Indian film director, actor, producer, and a comedian who mostly worked in Tamil film industry.
Balachander alias Manobala, was born on December 8, 1953, in Tamil Nadu, India. He was a self-made man who began his career as an actor in Tamil cinema. He stared his career in Tamil film industry in 1970’s. With the reference of Kamal Haasan, he worked as an assistant director to Bharathiraja for his 1979 film “Puthiya Vaarpugal.” Manobala is a multi-talented person as he not only worked in Tamil cinema but also in Kannada and Bollywood cinema. In 1990 he directed a Bollywood movie, “Mera pati sirf mera hai” starring Rekha and Jeetendra. He is famously known for his comedic timing and hilarious facial expressions. He was a versatile actor who could effortlessly play a comedic role as well as a serious role. According to informed sources, he appeared in 700 films, directed 19 television shows, 40 films and 9 telefilms.

In addition to being a skilled performer, Manobala was also a well-known producer and director. He produced and directed several well-received films, including “Joot” (2003), “Sathya” (1988), “Karnaa” (1995), and “Ninaithale Inikkum” (1979). He was a true artist who was devoted to entertaining his followers and who was passionate about his craft. He gave many hits to Tamil film industry such as “Aagaya Gangai” (1982), “Naan Ungal Rasigan (1985), “Pillai Nila” (1985), “Paaru Paaru Pattanam Paaru” (1986), “Chiraiparavai” (1987), “Thoorathu Pachai” (1987), “Oor Kavalan” (1987), “Em Purusan Thaan Enakku Mattum Thaan” (1989), “Moodu Mandhiram” (1989), “Thendral Sudum” (1989), “Malluvetti Minor” (1990), “Vetri Padigal” (1991), and the list goes on. It is safe to say that he is one of the most prominent figures in Tamil film industry and has contributed a great amount of success.
Throughout his career, Manobala worked with the biggest names in Tamil film industry such as Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Sathyaraj. He was also very close with director Bharathiraja and Manobala stated that he mentored him. In his YouTube video (channel: Manobala’s Waste paper) he stated that he was fascinated by the vision of director Bharathiraja and was impressed by his casting skills.
