His Controversies in the Past
Shashi Tharoor’s life has been marred by controversy. Here are some of Shashi Tharoor’s most famous disagreements.
- Twitter I—Cattle Class: During the Manmohan Singh government’s austerity drive, Tharoor received negative news after he was discovered staying in a five-star hotel. While he was ordered to tone it down, the subsequent Tweet exchanges caused all hell to break loose. Tweet by Kanchan Gupta.
- Visa observations: In the aftermath of November 26, Tharoor was chastised by then-Foreign Minister SM Krishna for challenging visa standards.
- Sunanda’s death case:Sunanda was discovered dead in a hotel not long after the Twitter above controversy ended. While her death occurred in January, the debate continues in October, claiming she was poisoned.
“I felt it was a foul act all along,” BJP leader Subramanian Swamy recently told the media. We need to figure out who committed the crime. Shashi Tharoor will have to explain himself a lot. On the day of the autopsy, why was he at AIIMS? Why did he send letters to doctors claiming that Alprax was the cause, even though she had never used Alprax? All of this is something that needs to be explained.”
- Saudi Interlocutor: A person who participates in a conversation or dialogue is known as an interlocutor. Every word Tharoor says is dissected to its core. “We feel that Saudi Arabia has a long and close relationship with Pakistan,” he said during a visit to Saudi Arabia. “That makes Saudi Arabia an even more valuable interlocutor for us.”
The Pakistani media interpreted the phrase interlocutor to suggest that India wanted Saudi Arabia to act as a mediator, and Shashi Tharoor was once again in hot water.
