Mallikarjun Kharge In the Race of Congress Presidential Election, Resigned from Rajya Sabha Post

Date:

Congress presidential election to be held on October 17 for which it was heard that Shashi Tharoor, Ashok Gehlot, and Digvijay Singh might be the contenders but Ashok Gehlot refused to participate in the congress presidential election in order to save his position of Chief Minister of Rajasthan.

Suddenly Mallikarjun came into the frame and decided to participate in the congress presidential poll. Digvijay Singh also excluded himself from the race and now the fight is direct between Shashi Tharoor and Mallikarjun. Mallikarjun is a veteran of the Congress party and was a member of Rajya Sabha.

Today he filed his nomination for the congress president poll and resigned as the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha. He informed part’s working president Sonia Gandhi that he is quitting the post in the upper house, to adhere to congress’s “one person, one post” rule. He sent a letter to Sonia Gandhi last night.

Now Sonia Gandhi, the chairperson of the Congress parliamentary party, will now appoint a new leader and convey the decision to Rajya Sabha Chairperson.

In 25 years, the first time Congress is going to elect a non-Gandhi president. Mallikarjun who is 80 years old, is the candidate whom Gandhi’s backs and is likely to win the presidential election of the Congress party.

But many questions are also arising over Mallikarjun’s entry as the contender for congress president poll because the result of the election seems clear though the election for the presidential post is taking place in a democratic way.

There are two contenders Shashi Tharoor and Mallikarjun Kharge who will face each other in the election, member of the Congress party will vote according to their wishes but will there be any change in the congress party or will it remain as it was.

Shashi Tharoor has filed his nomination for president poll he has also launched a campaign #ThinkTomorrowThinkTharoor but during his nomination no top leader of congress was seen, there were fewer people, fewer cameras after completing his nomination his went somewhere else and did a long press conference in which he revealed his visions.

He said those who want old structure of congress can vote for Mallikarjun Kharge but those who want change in the party, those who want new congress party so that more new people can join the party can vote for me.

Mallikarjun Kharge whose name was not even in the race of president poll came into the scene suddenly, decided to participate in the contest just one day before his nomination. His nomination was grand so many cameras were there and many top leaders of the Congress party were seen in his nomination backing him.

In Tharoor’s nomination, no renowned leaders were seen except Sandeep Dixit who is the representative of Shashi Tharoor and Karti Chitambaram.

Shashi Tharoor gave his statement outside of the office of the Congress party because it is not allowed to do so and the party doesn’t do promotion of the candidates, Candidates do their promotion by themselves but Mallikarjun Kharge gave his speech inside the party office, so the picture seems almost clear that who is favourite for the party presidential post and who is not.

Shashi Tharoor who has been elected as member of parliament for three times that too when the condition of congress was bad, who seems full of vision is alone.

However, the history of Mallikarjun Kharge is also vast and his career has also been great but now will 80 years old Mallikarjun win the election?  After watching the support of Congress party for him what conclusion can be drawn? Is it really a contest or is it just a formality?

People are saying if Mallikarjun will win then there will be no meaning of party President because above him there will be always Gandhi. So many questions are there let’s see who will be the new president of the Congress party Shashi Tharoor or Mallikarjun Kharge.
