Cleansing is an important part of a skincare ritual because having clean skin is crucial in maintaining a blemish-free and youthful face. Cleansing your face is the cornerstone of beautiful, radiant skin.
Cleansing removes dirt, impurities, debris, and makeup so that your skincare, eye cream, moisturizer, serum, or oil can work to its maximum effect.
The Importance of cleansing in Skincare:
Out of all other things, Skincare rituals are usually self-taught, influenced by magazines and what we saw in the people around us.
But sometimes we can overshoot the mark with our cleaning ritual, forgetting that the washing practices that keep us healthy and hygienic are much less rigorous than the washing we have been socialized to believe keeps us clean. We are so obsessed with cleanliness that it makes us unhealthy.
We knowingly or unknowingly commit some mistakes in cleansing that can lead to acne breakouts, blackheads, and many other skin problems skincare routine is a must.
Dr. Aanchal Panth, a dermatologist recently took to Instagram to list some of the cleansing mistakes we should avoid during our skincare routine to ensure radiant and glowing skin.
Some of the mistakes that we should avoid during skincare:
- Applying the face wash or cleanser on dehydrated skin:
We should always splash some water on our face and then apply cleanser to it. This will help the cleanser to spread evenly on the face and not only in one spot.
2. Not using the correct quantity:
Generally, we take too much or too little of the cleanser which leads to either no proper cleansing of the facial pores or makes the skin super dry due to the chemicals present in the cleanser. we must apply coin-sized cleanser on our faces.
3. Quickly washing it off:
Another mistake we tend to make while cleansing our face is washing off the face wash quickly and neither letting it sit on the skin nor massaging the face with it.
4. Drying the face by rubbing with a towel:
When we rub our face with a towel, the friction causes the skin to break or become dry. we must always dab the towel on our face and leave the skin a bit damp so that it can absorb the moisturizer efficiently.
5. Failure to apply the moisturizer immediatelyÂ
After cleansing the face, we tend to neglect the moisturizing part; it can lead to dry and dull skin.
Moisturizing the face while the skin is still damp seals important ingredients in our skin and makes skin radiant and beautiful.
According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, how we wash our face can make a lot of difference in our appearance.
Follow these tips from dermatologists to keep your face healthy:
- Use a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser that does not contain alcohol.
- Moisten your face with lukewarm water and apply the cleanser with your fingertips. Using a flannel, a mesh sponge, or anything other than your fingertips can irritate your skin.
- Resist the temptation to scrub your skin, as scrubbing irritates the skin.
- Rinse the skin with lukewarm water and pat dry with a soft towel.
- Apply a moisturizer if your skin is dry or itchy. Be careful when applying cream to the area around your eyes so that you do not pull too hard on this sensitive skin.
- Wash only twice a day and after sweating. Wash your face once in the morning and once in the evening, and after heavy sweating. Sweating, especially if you wear a hat or helmet, irritates the skin. Wash your skin as soon as possible after sweating.
