Smriti Mandhana’s fiery knock of 79 helped India to chase down the target of 143 in the second T20i with Eight wickets and 20 balls to spare at the Derby County ground on Tuesday. With the win, India Women levelled the three-match T20Is to 1-1.
England top order stumble
The host had a shaky start with Sophie Dunkley and Daniel Wyatt scoring 5 and 6 respectively losing their wickets in the first two overs. From there on England Women lost wickets in quick succession and 65 run partnership in eight overs between Maia Bouchier scored 34 runs from 26 balls and Freya Kemp helped England women to surpass 100 run mark.Â
Kemp along with Sophie Ecclestone scored 7 from 6 balls in 23 run partnership for the seventh wicket and managed to post a decent total. Â Sneh Rana scalped three wickets for 24 runs and a wicket apiece for Renuka Singh and Deepti Sharma.
Kemp’s unbeaten Half Century
The English Women were under pressure, when they lost half of the side for 54, thanks to 17-year-old Freya Kemp’s score of 51 from 37 balls including three fours and an equal number of sixes helped to set a target of 143. Kemp registered in records as the youngest woman to score T20Is for England.
Two great partnerships
India Women had a good start in the powerplay, Player of the Match Smriti Mandhana and Shefali Varma had 55 runs opening partnership latter got out for 20 runs in 17 balls to Sophie Eccelstone bowled and caught. Small stay at the crease by D. Hemalatha scored 9 off 10 balls bowled by Davis.Â
Vice Captain Smriti’s unbeaten partnership of 69 with the Captain Harmanpreet Kaur who scored 29 off 22 balls guided the team to win with eight wickets and 20 balls to spare. Sophie Eccelstone and Freya Davis shared a wicket each.
In the first T20I, England Women won by nine wickets. The three-match series decider will be played on September 5, Thursday at County Ground Bristol.
