The new decisions announced by Sonia Gandhi at the end of the Thinking camp reflected the advice of Prashant Kishore rather than the demands of G-23.
Outraged leaders of the G-23 group demanded that the Congress top leadership should be active. Decisions must be made in consultation with everyone. For that, a new parliamentary board of the Congress has to be formed. The members of the Working Committee, the highest policy-maker in Congress, must win the organizational election.
The new decisions announced by Sonia Gandhi at the end of the Thinking camp on Sunday to revive the organization reflected the advice of Prashant Kishore rather than the demands of G-23. Instead of forming a parliamentary board, Sonia said today that an advisory group would be formed with selected members of the Congress working committee. The committee, headed by the Congress president, will meet regularly to discuss political issues and challenges. Almost the same thing was said on the teenager’s advice. Sonia, however, made it clear that the advisory group was not being formed to take decisions in consultation with all, as demanded by the G-23. In addition, to boost the morale of the leaders and workers of all levels of the party, Sonia has repeatedly said, “We will overcome”.
Today, Rahul Gandhi has put the most emphasis on the propaganda and public relations system of the Congress, which was emphasized by the Prashant Kishore in his advice. Acknowledging that the BJP is far ahead of the Congress in conveying the party’s message to the people, Rahul Gandhi said, “Our first step is to understand what the people want and what they are saying. The second step is to change the nature of Congress , the nature of work. Communication with people is an area where our opponents overwhelm us. They mean more, more communication. We need reform in this case. New communication systems are needed. ”
Rahul said that if communication is given to the youth, the communication system will also improve. In order to uplift the younger generation, it has been decided to field candidates under the age of 50 in 50 per cent of the seats at all levels of the organization and also in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections from the year 2024 onwards. There will be reasonable representation of Dalits, minorities, tribals and women in the list of organizations and candidates.
In the thinking camp, it has been decided that a separate department will be set up at AICC to work on election management throughout the year. Because the professionalism of the BJP in conducting elections is not seen in the Congress. Now the election committee of the Congress is working to select the candidates. Outraged Congress leaders, who were cornered during Rahul Gandhi’s tenure, wanted their views to be taken into account in the selection of candidates. So they demanded the return of the parliamentary board.
The parliamentary board was removed after P.V. Narasimha Rao became the Congress president and prime minister at the same time. Until then it was the job of the parliamentary board to coordinate between the parliamentary party and the state parliamentary party. If a new parliamentary board was formed in the Congress like the BJP, the parliamentary board would have become important in selecting candidates during elections. But in the thinking camp that demand has been rejected. The G-23 leaders, however, hope that the Congress leadership has been active in complying with their demands. During the organizational election, they will demand the formation of a working committee through re-election. After that the demand for formation of parliamentary board will also be raised.
In order to revive the organization, the Congress has decided to form a Mandal Committee under the Block Congress Committee. A national training center will be set up to train team personnel. It will start from the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Development Studies in Kerala. In order to understand the minds of the people in a corporate manner, a ‘Public Insight’ branch will be set up for public opinion polls, and an ‘Assessment’ department will be set up to evaluate the work of the office bearers. Leaders will be promoted and removed on that basis. Political affairs committees will be formed at the AICC and provincial levels.
