According to a SpiceJet Q400 representative, the aircraft was undergoing maintenance.
According to a SpiceJet spokeswoman, the Q400 aircraft’s engine had a fire warning, and the fire extinguisher was used to put it out. The airline corporation claimed that both the crew performing the maintenance and the aircraft were secure.
On Tuesday, an aircraft belonging to SpiceJet caught fire while being serviced at the Indira Gandhi International Airport near Delhi as part of its engine maintenance program. It has been reported that both the aircraft and the maintenance personnel are safe, according to a spokesperson for the airline. During the maintenance work, the spokesperson of the company stated that the engineer observed a fire warning on one of the engines around 8 pm when they were performing a ground run on the engine.
On social media, a video purportedly showing the incident has also gone viral.
The DGCA had earlier in the day declared it would take SpiceJet off of the “enhanced surveillance” it had been placed under as a result of various events involving the maintenance of aircraft that occurred during the previous monsoon. The DGCA conducted inspections on 23 SpiceJet aircraft, including Boeing 737 and Q-400, at 11 different locations before making its judgment.
The airline’s website indicates that it has Q400s that can accommodate 78 passengers and 90 passengers respectively.
Ensuring aviation safety: what steps are taken?
Stringent maintenance and inspection-
Airlines follow rigorous maintenance schedules to ensure that their aircraft are in top-notch condition. Regular inspections, both on the ground and in-flight, are carried out to identify and rectify any potential issues.
Pilot training and expertise-
Pilots undergo extensive training to handle emergencies and are equipped with the knowledge to make critical decisions swiftly.
Airport emergency services-
Airports have dedicated fire and rescue teams that are well-prepared to respond to incidents like this. Their prompt action can make a significant difference in minimizing damage and saving lives.

SpiceJet, in collaboration with aviation authorities, has initiated an investigation to determine the root cause of the incident. The data from the flight’s black box and other evidence will be carefully analyzed to draw conclusive findings.
Ensuring Accountability-
If the investigation reveals any lapses on the part of the airline or its personnel, appropriate action will be taken to ensure accountability.
Concerns regarding aviation safety and the requirement for stringent processes to prevent such accidents have been expressed in light of the incident involving the SpiceJet Q400 aircraft at the Delhi Airport. Passengers, cabin crew, and airport staff all acted quickly to avert a potential catastrophe. The incident’s study will shed light on its causes and probably result in more advancements in aviation safety protocols.
