Mesmerizing is the world of art, creativity rules it today. Over the years, studies have focused on the importance of amalgamating technology and nature thereby introducing the concept of “Envirotech”. A manifestation of this concept can be vividly seen in the works of a budding artist Vignesh acknowledged as the sunlight artist, who hails from Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu.
The Art and the Artist
Vignesh is a 30-year-old diploma holder whose passion for painting portraits of celebrities has attracted him to the technique of heliography. In his childhood, Vignesh attempted to burn scrapes of paper with this technique. Moreover, he perceives artwork as his sole profession. An engineer who traveled long distances for work turned out to be the most stressful period in his life. As a result, he developed a medical condition in 2019 which made him bedridden for a month, and was mocked by the people around him. To overcome his mental imbalance he practiced this skill for over a couple of years and perfected it.
Artist – Embracing creativity and novelty
As Vignesh puts it “This is called sunlight wood burning art. You create art by burning the surface of the wood using sunlight and a magnifying glass. By positioning the magnifying glass at particular and various angles, I burn the top layer of the wood, thereby creating art. Stars from Hollywood to Kollywood stars and popular politicians are all featured in my artwork.”
A Path he Paved
When people stay indoors due to scorching sun and heat waves, the sunlight artist turns it into an opportunity. He carries his accessories to protect himself from the beam and a magnifying glass to refract the beam to the wood, thus creating a masterpiece. At present, he has been credited with a collection of 25 magnificent portraits and numerous 3D arts and sketches.
Dawn of an Inspiring World of art
During his resting period, he came across the videos of Michael Papadakis who is renowned for his heliography in America, the artist in Vignesh woke up and thus became the sunlight artist who created his own story. Vignesh is now a prominent social media figure on platforms like Instagram (vicky_3D_art), Twitter (Vicky3Dart), YouTube as well as TikTok.
Conclusion
Vignesh assures that,
“Someday, I wish to have an exhibition of all my works and also teach this form of art to all those who are interested. My health condition of being bedridden transformed my life. Maybe, it might inspire someone who has been challenged, to rise against odds and create a niche for himself.”
