On Tuesday the police in the capital city of Belgium, Brussels, closed a 2020 cold case after arresting the perpetrator following his confession.
The accused is a 37-year-old man named, Gunter Uwents who confessed to murdering his primary school teacher by stabbing her a total of 101 times. According to the culprit, his motive for the crime was that when he was a seven-year-old schoolboy in the early 1990s, his teacher named Maria Verlinden, the victim of the case, used to make disgrace him with her comments, making him feel humiliated and that he never got over those bitter sentiments.
In the year 2020, the victim, 59-year-old Maria Verlinden was found slain in her own home in Herentals near Antwerp, in the year 2020. Even with all the inquiries that the police did and with the hundreds of samples of DNA collected from the crime scene, the Belgium police department was unable to apprehend the murderer.
When the police swept through the killing ground, they noted that the victim’s purse, which was sitting on the dining table near where the victim’s body was discovered, was in a pristine condition despite it containing some cash. this made the police strike off the possibility of a heist gone wrong.
The victim’s husband even issued a public plea for the witnesses to come forward and put the case to a finish by bringing the right individual to justice. The media reports suggest that Verlinden was stabbed a total of 101 times due to which it can be characterized as overkill.
According to the prosecutors, on the 20th of November,2020 after 16 months of murdering his ex-teacher, Gunter blew that lid off and admitted to his misdeed to a friend, who in turn tipped the police off about the heinous murder.
Uwents has submitted a DNA sample that will be compared to traces discovered at the crime scene. He was bound to get caught up in the genetic-sampling dragnet as a former student.
The officials at the local prosecutor’s office stated that the accused furnished them with intricate details regarding the murder which was counted as a confession. Allegedly the perpetrator indicated that he suffered at the hands of his instructor throughout the length of his primary school career. According to one prosecutor, “they will check if the investigation corroborates Gunter’s claims”
On Tuesday the 15th, Gunter was hauled before a judge and put in detention for the murder of the 59-year-old. The media reported that Gunter was a religious man who believed in assisting the homeless.
