Infants born to black mothers through IVF techniques get four times higher death rates when compared to infants of White mothers.
Studies on Black Vs White Infants
Researchers make clear that the probability of a black baby dying is twice that of a white baby before turning one year of age. The case gets worse if the babies are born through fertilization techniques.
As per the research made by the “Journal Of pediatrics”, it is found that mortality rates of black infants are four times high if the mothers use assistive technologies and two times high if they conceive naturally when compared to white infants.
As per the study made by leading gynecologists and associate professor of British Columbia University, Dr.Sarka Lisonkova, “Most infants die within a day due to underdevelopment issues of the baby in the uterus or due to some wrong happenings during pregnancies.”
Dr.Madeline Sutton, OG, Atlanta states that “Women who opt for Reproductive technologies are affected by structural racism. Women always tend to continue in the same systems that are, their treatments, type of insurance, etc.”
According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, Reproductive Technologies for infertility such as In vitro fertilization(IVF), involves the treatment of eggs and sperms. It’s a very expensive treatment which ranges up to $17000.
Death Rate Disparities among infants
As per the statistical reports given by Canadian researchers, during 2016-17, 7.5 million babies were born in the US, and 93,469 of them were born using assistive technologies. It’s very clear from these infants’ birth/death certificates that infants die very soon, within 28 days if they were delivered through assistive technologies.
Black Vs White women
Most Black women wait for more to begin their fertility treatments when compared to white women. They have more insecurity issues as they are older and this in turn affects their infants. It worsens the health of the mother too”, describes Dr.Tia Jackson-Bey, OG, Reproductive Medicine associates, Newyork.
Finally, it is concluded that women and their babies who use assistive technologies have a high risk when compared to women who conceive spontaneously.
