As a result of the virus’ spread, China was forced to shut down major cities, and the mainland reported its first Covid-related deaths in more than a year on Saturday. Cases of Covid-19 have increased all over the world, but particularly in South East Asia, where China, South Korea, and Hong Kong have all reported alarming increases in the virus’s prevalence.
Hong Kong passed the one-million-case mark on Friday, and South Korea reported a staggering 621,328 new Covid cases on Thursday, according to the latest available data.Â
Increase of Covid cases across EU
In Europe, there has been an increase in the number of cases hinting towards a fourth wave of Covid. The AFP(Agence France Presse)- a news agency company estimates a staggering 35 per cent weekly increase in Covid in France, as well as 42 per cent weekly increases in the United Kingdom and Italy, respectively.Â
False reports are a concern for WHO
The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that massive amounts of fake news about vaccines are being spread, whether intentionally or unintentionally, which has hampered recovery efforts.Â
The World Health Organization has also stated that false reports about the spread of the virus – such as reports claiming that the pandemic will end after omicron – are a source of concern.
