23 June 2024. The Titan Submersible that recently went missing is said to have “Catastrophically Imploded”, killing all five who were on board. As said by the US Coast Guard officials on Thursday who, earlier in the day, found debris of what they think are part of the Titan Submersible. It was found near the wreck of the Titanic ship some 4000 meters underwater. This was found after conducting a search for five days.
The debris was found on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean near the search site by a remotely operated underwater robot which was sent by a Canadian ship. The debris was also said to indicate that the reason for this implosion might have been the loss of pressure chamber, according to Coast Guard officials. The Coast Guard cannot yet tell the exact time of the implosion but they mentioned that they had not picked up any noises in their radars in recent times. They confirmed that they are going to continue with their search of the debris to accurately find out what might have happened but the environment is a bit difficult to work in. They also added that they had immediately informed the families of the missing and offer their deep condolences to those who lost their loved ones.
The Titan Submersible went missing on the 18th of June with five people on board. It had four days’ worth of oxygen when it went missing. The hopes of the crew member being alive were very low when the 4 days of oxygen supply was set to expire on Thursday.
This brings a tragic end to the large-scale international aerial and sea search of the Titan submersible which had lost contact with its host ship some 1 hour 45 minutes into its dive which was scheduled for 11hours. However, the host ship Polar Prince waited 8 hours after the Submersible went out of contact to report it missing.
OceanGate, the firm that runs this expedition to the wreck of titanic and the owner of the Titan submersible also confirmed this news stating that they now believe that everyone on board of the Titan submersible have sadly been lost.
The crew members who lost their lives were 59 years old British Billionaire and adventurer Hamish Harding, 48 years old British-Pakistani Businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19 years old son Suleman, the 77 years old pilot and titanic explorer Paul Henri Nargeoloet and the CEO and Co-founder of OceanGate Stockton Rush.
The family of the British Adventurer Hamish Harding criticized the fact that the parent ship did not report the Submarine missing earlier and waited 8 hours to report it missing. They believe that valuable time might have been lost at that waiting period. However, the parent ship mentioned that they followed all the protocols while dealing with this situation and never went out of the books.
Experts and former passengers also questioned the ability of the Submarine to go those depths expressing their worries.
