Suniel Shetty reacts to the Cancel culture amidst the boycott trends of films Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan and supports both Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar.
Cancel culture and the boycott of Bollywood films have been a trend these days. The threat of cancel culture is real. It turns people into activists without a cause. For several weeks, the hashtags #boycottLaalSinghChadha and #boycottRakshaBandhan have been trending on Twitter.
And now, Suniel Shetty has come to the aid of both the actors and the films. In a recent media house interview, Suniel Shetty stated that Aamir Khan could choose to do five films a year if he wanted, but he does one film every five years, which he said is something that deserves a lot of respect.
Talking about Akshay Kumar’s prolific output, he said that the actor has been continuously delivering entertaining movies. Referring to the boycott trends, he added, “So for that same, let’s not destroy an industry that has its own legacy of good people and people who might have made some mistakes at a particular stage.”
But aren’t we humans too? Give them that opportunity. We can only pray that better sense prevails that this doesn’t happen and that the two films work big time. The boycott trend on Laal Singh Chaddha began to grow after people brought back an old video from 2015, where Aamir Khan spoke about the growing intolerance in the country
Recently, during the promotion of the movie, the actor made sincere requests to the audience to not boycott the film. Adding to this, he said he loves his country, contrary to popular belief. “It is rather unfortunate if some people feel that way.
I want to assure everyone that it’s not the case, so please don’t boycott my movies. “Please watch them,” he had said. At another event where he was promoting his movie, he apologized for hurting people’s sentiments and hoped the movie would reach a large audience.
Kareena Kapoor, the main lead, reacted to the boycott by saying, “It’s a film and it’s going to be released and everyone will have their opinions. If it’s a good film, it will surpass anything.“ On the other hand, Akshay Kumar’s film, Raksha Bandhan, was called for a boycott due to alleged old Hindu phobic tweets resurfacing online by the writer of the film, Kanika Dhillon.
Akshay Kumar responded to this boycott trend during a promotional event for the film, saying, “If you don’t feel like watching the movie, then don’t, It’s a free country and the film is out there, so if someone wants to watch it or not, it’s up to them.
I would like to tell you, no matter which industry it is, be it the clothing industry, film industry, or anything else, all of this help the economy. But doing things like boycotting, it doesn’t make sense.“ Laal Singh Chaddha is the official remake of the Oscar-winning Tom Hanks film Forrest Gump.
The movie has Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the leading roles, and Naga Chaitanya is making his Bollywood debut with this movie. On the other hand, Raksha Bandhan is a family comedy-drama movie directed by Aanand L. Rai. Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan are playing in cinemas now.
