Former Wonder Girls member, Sunmi released a new digital single ‘Heart Burn’, and announced a World Tour.
Sunmi is back with a summer bop this year with ‘열이올라요(Heart Burn)’. It’s a catchy song with an addictive melody that has a mysterious yet energetic feel to it. Sunmi used the metaphor of ‘heartburn’ to express wild love during the scorching sunny season. Pporappippam’s day version, ‘Heart Burn,’ is about a hot love in the summer. The choreography seems unusual due to the use of large fans and elastic bands/rope.
Sunmi co-wrote and co-composed the lyrics to ‘Childhood.’ ‘Childhood’ is the b-side track ‘Heart Burn.’ She described it as a song about young love that everyone has felt at least once, and it was inspired by the film ‘The Notebook.’
She went on to say that her fans enjoy the vibe of songs like ‘Faded Love,’ ‘To The Beautiful You,’ and ‘Black Pearl,’ so she created ‘Childhood’ with the same vibe. Inspired by ‘The Notebook’, the characters fall in love but do not last together until the end. While the melody in ‘Heart Burn’ is simple and addictive, the melody in ‘Childhood’ is more sophisticated but still memorable.
The soloist advised fans to listen to ‘Heart Burn’ from 1 pm to 3 pm, then to ‘Childhood’ when the heat has subsided, and end with ‘Pporappippam’ at night.
‘Heart Burn’ Music Video
Sunmi released a music video for the title track of the single album ‘Heart Burn.’ In the music video, Sunmi travels through time and place. The MV begins in 1966, in Los Angeles where Sunmi is frolicking through the backyard of a big house. While she is busy enjoying herself in the garden, a man watches her from the house and suddenly smiles. The scene changes to Sunmi and the man having cute and beautiful moments. However, right after kissing the man, he falls sick and is taken to the hospital.
Next, in 1856 Texas, Sunmi comes out of a house wearing a white dress with a cowboy hat. Time again changes to 1928 Bogota where a man is plucking the petals of a white flower and Sunmi is sitting beside him on the bed. Then, in 1969 Tokyo Sunmi and a man are sitting on a sofa.
Almost by the end of the music video, Sunmi has killed all of her lovers after spending a night with them. They all fell sick right after kissing her. There is a scene that shows Sunmi holding her hands and crying while looking at the pictures of all her lovers. Then at the end, she runs through the graveyard where her lovers were probably buried. Jumping, dancing, and throwing flower petals over the graves of the men she killed.
Sunmi appears in the music video as an immortal vampire who leaves a trail of dead lovers wherever she goes. On the 4th of July, Sunmi will be releasing a special video of the Heart Burn band version. She plays the bass in the Heart Burn band version.
