A man buys a car worth Rs 6 lakh with Rs 10 coins in Tamil Nadu which he collected in a month after banks refuse to accept them.
A man in Tamil Nadu created a buzz on social media after he spent a month collecting Rs 6 lakh in Rs 10 coins to buy a car. Employees in a prominent vehicle dealer in Dharmapuri district were in for a major surprise when they saw a man coming to the showroom with a vehicle loaded full of Rs 10 coins to buy a car. The man, Vetrivel, from Arur, stated that his mother runs a shop and came across several instances where people refused to take Rs 10 coins, which resulted in a large heap of those coins at his home.
“Even in banks, officials are reluctant to use them. They claim they don’t have the numbers to count the coins. When the RBI has not said that the coins are worthless, why aren’t banks accepting them? Even if we complain, no action is taken,” he said. He also mentioned, when he saw kids in the area playing with Rs 10 coins as if they are worthless. “I wanted to create awareness by buying a car with only Rs 10 coins.” He spent nearly a month collecting Rs 10 coins worth Rs 6 lakh to buy the car. He said, “At first, the dealership was hesitating, but considering my determination, they agreed to the deal.” His relatives and his family carried sacks of Rs 10 coins into the centre and they were all counted, finally, the vehicle keys were handed over to him.
A similar story surfaced a few months back. Wherein a man in Assam bought a new scooter using a sack of coins from his savings. This news also created a buzz on social media where people were surprised and showed their amazement over the issue.
