Rajalxmi Vijay, the CEO of an IT and Telecommunication firm in Mumbai ‘Altruist Technologies’, was hit and knocked down by an over-speeding car which has led to her sudden demise.
The accident happened at 6:30 am (Sunday) near Worli Milk Dairy. The lady was hurled away by a few metres when she was hit by the vehicle. She was declared dead when she was taken to a nearby hospital. According to the police “Her husband was also jogging near Shivaji Park at the same time.”.He rushed to the spot when the police called him.
Later, the locals caught the TATA Nexon Car driver, Sumer Merchant,23. According to the locals, “He was over speeding.”. The locals then handed over the guy to the police.
The police booked him under suitable sections of the Indian Penal Code regarding and rash and negligent driving and causing death due to negligence. The young driver is also believed to be hurt due to several minor injuries. He is also going to be held for medical test to check whether he was in the stupor of alcohol.

Rajalaxmi was a fitness enthusiast who was also a prominent member of the city’s jogger’s forum. She had also been one of the finishers of the TATA Mumbai Marathon. According to her colleague, she had also been preparing for the London Marathon Event.
Sumer Merchant (23) reportedly lost his control of the steering. He dragooned the car against the divider on the road after hitting Rajalaxmi. Rajalaxmi has suffered various skull and head injuries which led to her immediate death. The car’s windshield was found shattered and the car, severely crushed. When this over speeding car hit Rajalaxmi Vijay, she was flung in the air and hurled away several metres away causing severe head and skull injuries. She was later admitted in Nair Hospital.
“We shall look into the matter and check CCTV footages and Merchant’s blood samples as the investigation goes underway.”, Said the police.
Rajalaxmi Vijay and her Husband were the residents of Dadar Matunga Area. Rajalaxmi was was a group of the jogger’s group of Shivaji Park. She was known for jogging every Sunday. She often claimed to be a ‘fitness freak’ as she was health conscious.
According to witnesses, Merchant was seen over speeding and being drunk. The accident took place near the Worli Milk Dairy, just a few metres away from the Worli-Bandra Sealink. She was found at the spot without any sort of ID.
People expressed their and views and concerns regarding the news on twitter. One of the Twitter users explained how it was important for runners to take care and remain vigilant while morning walks and jogging sessions.

He colleagues reported that she was preparing also for the upcoming London Marathon Event. Her sudden demise has left her relatives, friends and followers in grief. She was a popular figure in the society, being the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ‘Altruist Technologies’ which is a Mumbai based Information Technology (IT) and Telecommunication firm.
