All the failed students of the intermediate first year in Telangana are now declared as passed. The Telangana government took the call on this, to reduce the psychological pressure of the students the government has provided them with grace marks and considered them as pass.
Speaking to the media Telangana educational minister Mrs. Sabitha Indra Reddy revealed that 2,35,230 students who were failed in clearing their first-year intermediate exams, would be declared as a pass because the government of Telangana will be providing the grace marks for them.
The government of Telangana has taken this decision as a one-time exemption by considering the pandemic effects on students. As per Mrs. Reddy, this decision by the government was taken to support the students in dealing with their psychological issues and to support them to attend the second-year exams as well.
The educational minister clearly said that this is the last time that the students will be provided with pass marks on the whole. The government is not going to encourage it anymore.
By evaluating the upcoming consequences that the students are going to face in the coming future the government conducted the exams seriously. This time they have considered because for attending any competitive exams or to go for higher education, it is very much important to clear the board exams.
So, believing it sincerely, The Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education conducted the exams as the students have not attended any exams in the past 2 years due to covid19 and lockdown. This might loosen the spirit of students and the government thought that the students need to be tested for their knowledge.
But after the results were announced the government has been trolled mercilessly. The questions were raised on the educational system and conducting the online classes and digital teaching methods.
Coming back to the intermediate first-year exams those were conducted from October 25 to November 3 in this year. The results were announced on 17th December through a press release and left the parents and students in uttermost disappointment.
TSBIE has a registered pass percentage of 49%. Among the 4,59,242 students, only 1, 99,786 students passed in the general stream, and 24,226 students passed in vocational courses.
As soon as the results were announced the students and parents started accusing the government of the process of online classes, some were started raising complaints as they were unable to access the internet and so they were not able to understand the lessons.
Several student unions including the Student’s Federation of India (SFI) and NSUI were assembled in front of the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education and started protesting against them at Nampally, Hyderabad.
They were calling the results unfair and need to be improvised and also demanded a fair evaluation. The social media platform Twitter was flooded with messages of students carrying their disappointment on the results. Many students were tried to attempt suicide, this worsens the situation.
The government stated that they have reduced the syllabus up to 70% and choices in the question paper were also increased and they have published the basic learning material in the official TSBIE website and youtube channel and they also had a point that 49% of students were passed by deceiving all the obstacles.
The student unions also raised the point of supplementary exams, if the government will hold the supplementary exams, then it will be major trouble for the students who have failed as the schedule might have a clash with the second-year exams.
By considering all this, the government has changed its decision and decided to add 30 marks which are needed for the minimum pass marks. With this decision, all the failed students will be declared as pass.
