FBI at Trump’s Florida residence: Former US President Donald Trump claimed that the FBI “raided” his residence in Florida and that officers forced open a safe.
According to a statement from Mr. Trump, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach was “occupied by a big group of FBI investigators.”
According to reports, the search was related to a probe into how Mr. Trump handled government documents.
As Mr. Trump gets ready for a potential third presidential bid in 2024, there is an increase in federal enforcement investigations.
Mr. Trump was reportedly present at the time of the raid on Monday at Trump Tower in New York City, according to CBS News.
Trump’s comments on surprise raid at his home:
Our country is going through a terrible moment, Mr. Trump said in his statement.
He said the surprise raid on his residence was not necessary nor acceptable because he had cooperated with federal entities.
According to Mr. Trump, “the weaponization of the Justice System” to keep him from running for president again.
He said that only impoverished, Third-World nations could support such an onslaught. “Unfortunately, America has now joined that group of nations, where corruption is at an unprecedented level.
Even my safe was broken into by them.
The reason behind the search at Trump’s home:
The FBI’s execution of the search warrant at Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home was connected to an inquiry into the management of National Archives data, according to Eric Trump, the second-oldest son of the president.
The US government’s National Archives, which oversees the preservation of presidential records, requested that the Justice Department look into Mr. Trump’s handling of official documents in February.
The National Archives claimed to have taken 15 boxes from Mar-a-Lago, some of which held secret documents.
US presidents are obligated by law to transmit all of their correspondence, official papers, and emails to the National Archives.
However, according to authorities, the former president illegally tore up several documents.
The reason behind this raid according to Trump:
According to the Archives, several of them needed to be taped back together. At the time, Mr. Trump dismissed allegations that he had improperly handled government records as “fake news.”
According to a top Trump aide in Palm Beach, the purpose of the federal investigators’ investigation was to find presidential documents.
The Trump insider, who only consented to talk on the condition of anonymity, stated, “This is about the PRA [Presidential Records Act].”
When was the last time a PRA raid made the news?
“They [the FBI] just left and they departed with very little,” the person continued.
A judge must certify a warrant for a federal search. They are typically utilized when law enforcement agents need to collect evidence immediately or are worried that the evidence may be taken or destroyed if it is not seized right away.
The Secret Service was informed just before the order was issued, about 10:00, according to an unidentified law enforcement official who spoke to CBS. Agents guarding Mr. Trump also assisted the FBI investigators.
According to a senior White House official, the West Wing was not informed in advance of the raid.
The senior official, who was not permitted to talk publicly about the situation, said, “No advance knowledge.” “Some learned through traditional media, while others from social media.”
In order to prevent any indication of political pressure or improper behavior, the White House of US President Joe Biden has stated that it will limit its meetings with senior justice department personnel.
Joe Biden’s action on this raid:
While running for president, Mr. Biden vowed to avoid getting involved in the activities of the justice department. In addition, the president’s family is anticipating whether or not federal prosecutors would prosecute his son, Hunter Biden, with tax evasion or other criminal offenses.
In addition to the National Archives investigation, a select committee of the US House of Representatives is looking into Mr. Trump’s actions surrounding the riot at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, when a mob of his supporters attacked members of Congress as they gathered to certify Mr. Biden’s victory.
The 2020 presidential election challenge by Mr. Trump is being looked into by the US law department. According to Attorney General Merrick Garland, he wants to hold “everyone” responsible.
Additionally, a prosecutor in Fulton County, Georgia, is looking into possible attempts by Mr. Trump and his allies to tamper with the outcome of the 2020 election in that state.
