ABOUT CHHELLO SHOW
The coming-of-age play performed in Gujarati that has won the praise and admiration of spectators and critics all over the world is now scheduled to make its debut in theatres in Gujarat on October 14, 2022, as well as on select screens in other parts of the country. Last Film Show (Chhello Show) is a film that was inspired by the director Pan Nalin’s memories of falling in love with movies as a child in rural Gujarat.
The film is set at the cusp of the digital revolution and follows the story of a nine-year-old boy who is captivated by the magic and science of light and shadow that lies behind celluloid film projection. Even though he is facing societal constraints as well as economic uncertainty, he continues to follow his passion for the “film show” with undivided dedication. He is unaware of the technological revolution that is speeding toward him. It is a drama that is genuine, natural, and organic, and it is filled with intense feelings since it centers on movies, food, and friends.

Now I can finally take a deep breath and think that there is such a thing as a movie that educates, motivates, and entertains its audience. Thank you very much to the FFI, and thank you also to the jury.”

The Kashmir Files and RRR were rumored to be India’s potential submissions for the category; nevertheless, it was RRR that gained the greatest interest with Western audiences and was ultimately chosen. Ever since it was made available on Netflix, the SS Rajamouli epic has acquired a larger audience base, with the worldwide media as well as filmmakers and fans taking notice of the filmmaker’s extraordinarily innovative storytelling.
Siddharth Roy Kapur, the film’s producer, reacted with elation upon hearing the news and stated that they are “thrilled and honored” that their movie, “Last Film Show,” has been chosen to represent India at the Academy Awards. A movie like this, which lauds the mystique and enchantment of cinema as well as the excitement of going to the movies, could not have been released at a more appropriate moment.
When a virus prevents people from attending movies throughout the world, it brings up memories of the first time viewers fell in love with the sensation of viewing a movie in a dark theatre. It is a source of tremendous pleasure for us to represent our nation with this film, and with the support of our partners Samuel Goldwyn Films and Orange Studio, we will do all in our power to ensure that we have the greatest possible chance of winning an Oscar for it!
