The ICC announced Indian batter Shreyas Iyer and New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr as ‘Players of the Month’ for February 2022.
Shreyas Iyer earned the International Cricket Council (ICC) Player of the Month award for men for his explosive batting performance in white-ball cricket during the home series against West Indies and Sri Lanka last month. Amelia Kerr, who is currently playing in the Women’s World Cup, performed brilliantly with her bat and ball in the five-match series against India.
The 27-year-old Iyer bagged the award alongside UAE batsman Vritya Aravind and Nepal all-rounder Deepender Singh, who was nominated for the same award. Iyer had played match-winning knocks of 80 runs in an ODI against the Windies and 25 off 16 in T20.
Subsequently, he scored an unbeaten half-century in all three matches of the T20 series against Sri Lanka. He was the highest run-scorer in the series, with a total of 204 runs and a strike rate of 174 and jumped from 27th place to 18th place in the ICC Men’s T20 rankings.
The 21-year-old White Fern all-rounder, Amelia, took the lead ahead of Mithali Raj and Deepti Sharma to win the title in the women’s category. She smashed a century and four half-centuries that helped her score a total of 353 runs in the series with an average strike rate of 177 against India.
The leg-spin bowler was also impressed with her leg-spin bowling and took seven wickets for the team in the series. Her all-rounding, charismatic performance against India helped the White Ferns sweep India by 4-1 in the five-match ODI.
These two players dominated their oppositions in the game and helped their team to win the series. Their game amplified and added more value against the odds throughout the month.
