Why the need to save strays ?
The need of Humaneness towards strays .Well said that there is one animal who we like to call – four-legged, fearless, and absolutely fabulous! Regardless of where they live – in a house or on the road, animals represent genuine love, irreplaceable trust, and unconditional loyalty specially the street dogs, cats, cows, birds. Despite all they represent, street animals specially dogs in India are considered a ‘menace’ by the ignorant and by those who lack accurate information on the rights of these innocent animals. They might never understand why you’re feeding dogs that live on the road, probably because they don’t understand that what keeps humanity alive in a ‘human’ is most often ‘a dog’. Our stray dogs guard our homes and streets with no condition, Â they take away our worries for the few moments we spend with them, and above all, they teach each the pure joy of being grateful for the small things in life. Then why must they be harmed for being themselves – fearless, friendly, and free! The rising crimes against them should be stopped by awaring more and more people !
Importance of strays
In India, each and every animal has its significance& importance specially dogs. Dogs have been referred to as Shvan in many Vedic verses and have a deep meaning in Hindu mythology. Right from being worshipped in parts of Sikkim and North Bengal, dogs have been the mounts of fearsome gods like, Kalabhairava. They are also considered protectors of the gates of heaven as well as hell. On many occasions food offerings are made to dogs during ceremonies of death. Dogs are considered a link between the netherworld and beings on Earth. As per astrology, people suffering from the negative effects of planet Rahu and Shani might find some respite when they feed black dogs. Throughout Vedas and Hinduism various animals have played their part either taking the form of the gods or being their vahana or mounts. Then how such pure soles can be hurt? Many of us wants beautiful luxury breed dogs , then who will think of our original pure Indian dogs, whom we call as just ‘ street dogs ’
Example of inspiring stories
Even there are many animal welfare organizations, Ngo’s, even peoples groups who are taking care of these strays including cats, cow, buffaloes, birds. Just we need to support them and there act. We can help on our own levels to generate awareness & to stop and report crimes if seen against strays like beating them with stones, sticks or throwing acid on them, throwing little puppies on roads, harsh drivers killing dogs. We all can keep a water bowl outside our homes for little poor animals, we can feed and adopt locality dogs. If each and every person will feed atleast one stray daily soon there will be no hungry, poor animal laying on the road. Even on social media we can support such groups and people. Like the story of a resident of Ratlam (MP) , Amiya Kumar Nigam and his family has adopted a street dog family. They care for birds and street cows also. They provide them food, water even medicines for any disease or injury. They have served its five generations of children till now, they all are still alive with ten dogs in the same family. They do it for a good cause without any selfish reason. They aware people for such acts of kindness. Many residents got motivation also. Many such peoples are there who are feeding street cows, cats and dogs inspiring us.
Rise for strays
Are you an active feeder who is questioned about your act and looked down upon for doing something generous? Well, there are a lot of us out there, and when you get tired of fighting with people who just do not get the emotion behind feeding strays, an ID might help to put their minds to rest. The Animal Welfare Board of India issues IDs for those who feed stray dogs. These IDs act as a support and validate the feeders’ actions as being ‘lawful’ and not illegal. How unfortunate is it that we now need IDs to be kind and compassionate ? Animals that live on the road fall under what is called a ‘social responsibility’. They live off of people’s kindness and responsibility towards a better society. As citizens of a country known to be rich in biodiversity, we must ensure that our animals are healthy, safe, and entitled to justice. They should be allowed to express natural behavior without fear, distress, or pain, and as Justice Sharma said, “we need to speak on their behalf”. Sometimes, making a difference is just about being selfless towards animals that cannot speak up for themselves. Under section 9 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, the capture of stray animals with the intention of inflicting harm is illegal. Under section 11 of the Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, it is illegal to poison stray dogs. Under sections 428 and 429 of the Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, you can report any person or people who inflict harm on a stray dog. We have rules and regulation the matter is to just follow them strictly. Although this happens every day and at every nook and corner, it is up to us to rise for the strays and stop being helpless bystanders. As we go about our daily activities, it is easy to forget what it means to make small differences that significantly impact the lives of animals with whom we share our planet. But, our animals need us – now more than ever, and it is time we came forth and learned what it is to be kind, generous, humane, and compassionate. If you look beyond the concrete jungle, you’ll find loyalty in unconditional love, humility in trust, and hope in difficulty – animals teach us the very essence of our existence.  Let’s start at our own levels, with immunizing the stray dogs (that live in our locality) against rabies. Next, as a community, pool in to feed as many strays as possible – two square meals a day is quite sufficient for their tummies. Further, if you happen to see any cruelty against stray dogs, be sure to report it. The more reports that people file, the more aware the government becomes towards the issue of animal cruelty. We believe that it is the tiny efforts that go a long way in bringing hope and joy to the four-legged friends who protect our homes and streets. The need of Humaneness towards strays
