A Ph.D student’s note saying “Don’t speak to me because once I start I will not stop talking and I am a terrible procrastinator” goes viral.
“Being a procrastinator”, We can all relate to this.
In general, we all have the habit of procrastinating things on purpose and on a regular basis. We procrastinate in order to feel relaxed in the moment and to escape from it. At the same time, no one can deny that we are the ones who suffer when the day comes when we cannot procrastinate any longer.
Here are some of the ways to combat procrastination:
- Prioritize goals:
We set goals in order to accomplish them and demonstrate our worth. We have the motivation to achieve our goals for the first few days, but then we start procrastinating. It is quite common. Prioritizing our goals is the only way to stop procrastinating. We should not put anything else ahead of our goals. Working towards our goals in the midst of disruption requires determination and confidence.
- Reward Yourself:
Even minor accomplishments should be recognised and rewarded. It will motivate us to continue and encourage us to complete tasks without procrastination.
- Eliminate negativity:
When we decide to do something good, we are bombarded with numerous distractions. We can be our own worst distraction at times. We console ourselves by telling ourselves, “It’s okay, you can do it later.” We still have time. We make excuses for not doing things, which eventually prevents us from doing things.
We must eliminate negativity and not allow distractions to keep us from accomplishing our goals.
- Take a break:
Taking a break every 20-30 minutes keeps us active. It motivates us to do things within a particular time frame.
- Set a deadline:
Create a time line and set a deadline that is earlier than the actual deadline. When we look at the time line, we try to finish it ahead of schedule out of fear.
Everybody is a terrible procrastinator. We believe that once we start talking, we will be unable to stop. Once we’ve begun, we can’t stop ourselves from procrastinating. But the truth is that nothing can extinguish the fire that burns within. If you are determined to do something, you should be prepared to face whatever obstacles come your way with confidence and wait to taste the fruit of success.
