Today, the Supreme Court started the hearing on the Lakhimpur Kheri case to call for proof of action taken to arrest the killers.
It also clarified that it took up the case when two lawyers wrote a letter to file PIL to investigate the unfortunate incident.
Following the nationwide uproar over the killing of the farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri, the honourable Supreme Court has asked for the report of action the police force has taken to capture the people who caused the accident today.
The farmers were having a peaceful protest against the visit of Ajay Mishra- Union minister of state for home affairs and deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.
The farmers were protesting because of Ajay Misra’s previous statement calling the farmers’ protest weak as protesters were only 10 to 15 in number and will take a flip of fingers to quieten them.
Who initiated the violence?
A video circulating on social media throws light on the fact that the farmers were protesting peacefully.
Suddenly, a black SUV (a convoy of Union minister Ajay Mishra) knocks down four farmers. The enraged mob takes control of the vehicle beating four, including one journalist, to death on the spot.
The union minister dismissed the charges against his son when farmers alleged that one of the cars had his son, and he is responsible for the accident that happened on Sunday.
They have requested the police to arrest him for murder and refused to bury the dead farmers until it happened.
The minister alleges that he wouldn’t have been alive now if his son were inside the car. Mr Mishra also adds that the protestors hurled stones at the driver, who lost control and hit the protestors.
This incident further heightened the country’s tensions for the past 11 months after introducing the Farmers bill.
The BJP government held many rounds of talk guaranteeing positive effects of the farmer’s law, which fetched no result.
The farmers told the police that Ashish Mishra was one among those present in the car. The tension intensified when there were no signs of arrest by the police officers.
The Supreme court starts the hearing of the case:
Looking at the extreme situation of Lakhimpur Kheri, the Supreme Court three-judge bench headed by the Chief justice of India N V Ramana started hearing the case Suo motto today morning.
