The Taliban government has ordered a ban on Tik Tok and PUBG in Afghanistan and gave the reason that these apps mislead Afghan youths. They are planning to ban TV channels from airing immoral materials, and they have already banned music, movies, and TV shows.
When the militant group took control of Afghanistan last year, they promised they would have a softer approach to government and they have increasingly curtailed freedoms, especially for women.
They were known as a cruel version of Islamist rule that was seen from 1996 to 2001. The Taliban spokesperson, Inamullah Samangani, told the media that the latest steps to ban were very important to save the younger generation from being misled.
But no one knows when it will take place or how long this ban will last. This is the first time the militant group has had an order to ban any app since they came into power.
According to a report, Tik tok and PUBG were gaining popularity in Afghanistan because there was nothing for entertainment after the banning of other forms of entertainment like TV soap operas, music, and movies.
Tik Tok was very popular with the younger generation who liked to film short humour videos. And it was the only option for entertainment for the people of Afghanistan that also called for a ban.
In recent years, the number of Internet users in Afghanistan has been rapidly growing along with the youth population. There are about 9 million users of the internet in Afghanistan, which is currently around 65 percent of the country’s population of 39 million aged below 25.
Already, the Indian government has banned Tik Tok and PUBG, but not for the same reason as the militant group claimed. India banned these apps based on data security and ordered the company to follow the new social media act.
