Farmers’ win is the country’s victory, said Rashtriya Lok Dal head, Jayant Chaudhary, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed the government’s plan to scrap farm rules.

While welcoming the repeal of the agricultural legislation, senior Congress leader and deputy leader of the Congress in the Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma hoped that the administration would learn not to circumvent Parliament and would seriously engage with the opposition before implementing laws having far-reaching repercussions.
“Truth and justice have triumphed, and the farmers’ cries have been justified. The farmers’ anguish and suffering, as well as the loss of life, could have been prevented if the administration had not circumvented Parliament’s scrutiny and excluded stakeholders from discussions “Rahul made the remarks after Prime Minister Modi announced the repeal of agricultural rules.
According to Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary, farmers’ success is the country’s victory, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of the government’s proposal to remove agricultural restrictions.
His remarks came after Prime Minister Modi announced in his morning address to the nation that the government has decided to repeal three agricultural laws that have been the focus of farmer protests for the past year.
“Win of the farmers is a victory of everyone; it is a victory of the country,” Chaudhary added in a Hindi tweet. In a tweet, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) stated that this “win is the result of farmers’ effort, dedication, and sacrifice.” The party also congratulated the farmers.
Since November 2020, many farmers have been protesting and encamped at Delhi’s borders, demanding that the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 be cancelled and a new law enacted to guarantee MSP for crops.
The Centre, which has undertaken 11 rounds of official consultation with farmers, has maintained that the new regulations are pro-farmer, whilst demonstrators have alleged that the legislation would leave them at the whim of companies.
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha is a venue for farmer unions to protest. It hailed the Prime Minister’s declaration on the repeal of three problematic agricultural regulations as a “historic success.” Still, it stressed that its campaign also includes demands for remunerative pricing and power rates.
It has not yet decided whether or not to end its year-long protest. The body also emphasised that the three laws’ repeal was not the only demand of the protesting unions. They also demanded the removal of the Electricity Amendment Bill and a formal legal assurance that all farmers will get minimum support prices for their goods.
