Women’s World Boxing Championship 2024
India will host the Women’s World boxing championship in New Delhi in 2024, this decision is significant as it has come two years after the country was stripped of its right to host the men’s boxing event for not paying the requisite fee to this global governing body.
India has never hosted the men’s world championship but it had the privilege of hosting the Women’s World Boxing Championship two times, in year 2006 and in the year 2018 in New Delhi.
The secretary general of the Boxing Federation of India said that finally, the country has received the rights to host the Women’s World boxing championship in 2024 which will be held in New Delhi in the last week of March and the first week of April.
The president of the International Boxing Association (IBA) Umar Kremlev is on his maiden visit to India and very soon the exact dates of conducting this Championship will be finalized.
This World Championship event will be held in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium of New Delhi although the dates are yet to be finalized. This is a significant event for the country as in 2021 the hosting rights of the event were lost by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) to Serbia after failing to pay the hosting fee which prompted the International Boxing Association to terminate the Indian agreement for hosting the Men’s world boxing championship.
In the last edition of this championship, held in Turkey where Indian boxer Nikhat Zarin won a gold medal in the flyweight category, hence we say that Punch mein hai dum.
The president of the International Boxing Association also announced that the Men’s boxing championship will be held in Tashkent in May 2024, interesting to note that this edition of the World’s men’s boxing event will witness the prize money doubling from the previous one. An awaited announcement like this is there for the women’s event too.
The governing body of boxing championships in the world ‘ the International Boxing Association ‘ hosts biennial amateur boxing championships events like the IBA World Boxing Championship and the IBA Women’s and Men’s boxing championships.

Alongside the Olympic boxing program, these are the highest level of competition for this sport. This championship was held for the first time in 1974 which was only the Men’s edition. 25 years later the governing body of boxing conducted the World Women’s Boxing Championship in 2001.
India has proven its mettle in boxing with shining stars like Mary Kom and Nikhat Zarin to name a few. More latent talent shall wait for these championships to shine.
