At the National Rifle Association annual meeting, American former President Donald Trump said that the Texas shooting is a reason to arm not disarm.
During his address, Trump said that law-abiding Americans should be armed, as evil exists in the world.
He also suggested the directions to increase security in schools, Trump said that single point entry should be in every school, and should be covered with fences and metal detectors, he further said that a system of policing is should be there and teachers should be trained with concealed weapons.
In his speech, Trump pointed out mental health issues. “We need to drastically change our approach to mental health,” All of us must unite, Republican and Democrat, in every state and at every level of government to finally harden our schools and protect our children. What we need now is a top-to-bottom security overhaul at schools all across our country,” Trump said.
The event was organised in Texas where an 18-year-old gunman killed 21 people including 19 school children and 2 teachers in an elementary school with his semiautomatic rifle.
However, several Texas politicians skipped the event to show their support to the victim’s families of the Texas shooting. Texas Lieutenant Governor, Dan Patrick also withdrew his name from the convention, where he could deliver, a speech. [I do not want] “to bring any additional pain or grief to the families and all those suffering in Uvalde,” He said in his explanation.
Meanwhile, Trump went on political sparks on the Biden administration as the midterm election is near in November, this year. He said that “this is not a matter of money this is a matter of will. If the United States has 40$ billion to send to Ukraine, we can do this.” He further added that several gun control policies were given by the left, but they have done nothing to prevent the shooting events.
A total of 214 incidents of gun violence have been recorded in the year 2022 only, according to an independent data collection organisation, Gun Violence Archive. Another non-profit organisation, Everytown for Gun Safety noted that around 77 incidents have happened on the school’s premises, in which 14 persons were killed and 45 were injured.
