TURKEY COAL MINE EXPLOSION DEATH TOLL REACHED 41
At least 41 people have lost their lives due to the Turkey Coal Mine Explosion in the North. The officials reported that 110 workers were performing their duty in the coal when this tragic incident took place. The incident took place in the town of Amasra, in the coastal province of Bartin. The President of Turkey also paid a visit and attended the funeral of the lost lives.
He mentioned. “We will determine how the explosion happened, and whether there is anyone responsible, through administrative and legal investigations,”
The near and dear ones of the workers waited all night in the cold temperature desperately for news. Rescue missions continued to take place on Saturday. The Minister of Energy Mr. Fatih Donmez stated that a firedamp explosion, a reference to the combustion of pockets of highly flammable gases trapped in the coal bed caused the explosion.
By Saturday Morning 58 people have been rescued, and a further 11 people were immediately taken to the hospital.
A miner who was present on the scene said ‘it was a frightful scene, which can’t be described, they were my friends, they had dreams.’
This is not the first time that this explosion has happened, In 2014 a similar accident happened, which killed 301 people on the spot. The head of the Union said he felt angry and sad as the union’s suggestions have often been ignored.
The authorities said that a team of more than 70 people were inside 250 meters below the pit to search for missing and trapped workers. One person reported,” they went to the mine and walked about 1.5 miles with their stretcher and kit and recovered nine bodies, which they prefer to call Martyrs”
The explosion occurred around 300 m deep. At that time, around 49 people were working in a risky zone that was 300-500 m deep. Ambulances were made on standby and rescue teams were immediately dispatched from neighboring areas.
As soon as the news of the explosion went out, people all over the world shared their thoughts and prayers with the suffering ones. The Prime Minister of Greece also showed support to Turkey by offering rescue assistance, even though the relationship between the two countries is not cordial.
