Two accused in the Sidhu Moose Wala murder case, lodged in Goindwal Central Jail in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district, clashed with each other inside the prison premises on Sunday afternoon.
According to Tarn Taran SSP Gurmeet Singh Chohan, two accused of Sidhu Moose wala’s murder, Mandeep Singh, alias Toofan, and Manmohan Singh, alias Mohna died in the incident. A third suspect in the case, Keshav, was critically injured and taken to Amritsar’s Guru Nanak Dev hospital.Mandeep belonged from Rayya in Amritsar district while Manmohan was from Budhlada in Mansa. The injured man Keshav resided in Bhatinda.
Toofan was allegedly one of the standby shooters in Sidhu Moose Wala’s May 29 killing in Punjab’s Mansa district and had allegiance to the Bhagwanpuria group. He was also wanted in the killing of another gangster Ranbir Singh alias Rana Kandowalia in a hospital in Amritsar in August 2021.
Mohna, former president of Budhlada truck union, was alleged to have kept a close watch on Sidhu Moose Wala from January 2022 till he was killed and for providing shelter to four persons involved in tracking the singer.
Earlier a member of Shiromani Akali Dal, Mohna joined Congress in January 2022, just a month before the Punjab assembly elections, allegedly to keep a close watch on Sidhu Moose Wala. Keshav allegedly had offered logistics support to the assassins.
Sources revealed that sharp-edged weapons, rods and even utensils were used during the fight. All three accused of Sidhu Moose Wala murder case were lodged in an isolated zone of the high-security prison and had been permitted out of their cells for a while in line with jail rules around 3pm when the clash took place, the senior superintendent of police (SSP) said.
The clash was initially a fallout between the gangsters, who had joined hands for Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder but later on took an ugly turn when the Lawrence-Goldy group allegedly suspected that the Bhagwanpuria gang leaked information in front of the police and also disclosed the gang’s involvement in drug peddling.
The clash was surprising for many because the jail administration had kept around 25 inmates of Jaggu Bhagwanpuriya and Lawrence Bishnoi gangs in the same barrack as they had friendly relations. Most of them were involved in Sidhu Moosewala’s murder case.
Sidhu Moosewala, was killed in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29. Moose Wala, who contested the Punjab election last year on a Congress ticket, was shot dead by unidentified attackers. His death was associated with gang rivalry in the state.
Lawrence Bishnoi was held responsible for the murder. His confidante Goldy Brar, who is rumored to reside in Canada, was also the subject of this probe. The National Investigation Agency got hold of Bishnoi on November 23 in connection to enlisting young people for carrying out terrorist attacks in Delhi and other parts of India.
