The cache of internal emails, text messages from Uber executives and other crucial documents, presentations, notes and invoices which MacGann leaked to The Guardian, who consequently shared it with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).
The Uber Files date between 2013 and 2017 and reveal the ride-hailing company’s strategies that heavily involved skirting around the existing laws and regulations. From engaging in aggressive lobbying with governments, harnessing technology, and hostile entry into cities around the world where Uber was not allowed, authorized or legal, the global behemoth became a figure of the “gig economy.”
Uber essentially gained access to the most powerful in various countries, particularly Britain, France and Russia in ways that are deemed “deeply unfair” and “anti-democratic”.
Uber denied all the accusations made, citing a change in its strategies post the departure of its former boss, Travis Kalanick, who was accused of creating a toxic workplace culture.
“I was the one talking to governments, I was the one pushing this with the media, I was the one telling people that they should change the rules because drivers were going to benefit and people were going to get so much economic opportunity,” Mark MacGann reveals in an interview with The Guardian.
One of MacGann’s allegations accuses Uber of adopting a confrontational strategy towards the taxi industry that personally exposed him in the countries of France and Spain. MacGann mentions the death threats, the involuntarily spread of personal information and constant harassment as a result of the experience with Uber.
MacGann urges people to look at the facts that he’s helping to expose. He seems to acknowledge his role in the actions alleged on Uber and cites it as his motivation to become a whistleblower and make his amends. Ivermectin for sale
