Uber, one of the most popular ride-hailing app in India, is moving steadily towards their commitment to Net Zero Carbon and have introduced their new product in India called “Uber Green”.
Now people travelling from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) also called the Mumbai International Airport, will be able to avail this new type of ride-on-demand.
Available on Terminal 2 of the CSMIA, Uber will now offer electric cabs to customers on-demand. The whole fleet is made up of electric cabs. This service can be availed through the Uber app where the customers can especially choose to book an Uber Green and reach their destination in a greener transportation.

CSMIA expressed their support for the initiative taken by Uber and was delighted to be the first ever Airport in India to host this initiative.
Mumbai Airport got its Level 3+ carbon neutrality certification back in May 2027 from Airport Council International (ACI). It recently got it’s Level 4+ Transition of Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program, the highest level an airport is permitted to achieve by ACI.
Both these achievements show Mumbai airport’s determination in contributing towards Carbon neutrality as CSMIA is India’s busiest airport that caters to more than 4 lakh people every day with a single runway.
The spokesperson of CSMIA for the Initiative taken by Uber to introduce Uber Green said, “This launch- Uber Green, aligns with our vision of promoting eco-friendly mobility and reinforces our commitment to creating a more sustainable and environmentally conscious Mumbai.”
Uber’s Take on Uber Green and going Carbon Neutral
Uber is the people’s favourite ride-hailing app. The company provides comfortable and affordable rides to its customers anytime, anywhere.
When the government announced the rule to change a part of the vehicle fleet of all companies in India to electric, Uber was at the forefront to take the step. It has slowly started to convert its fleet into electric vehicles.
In metropolitan cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and more, it has increased its number of electric cabs. Though there is no option to avail of an EV specifically as of yet. Now Uber has also given this option to its customers as riders can book an EV specifically from CSMIA. Though not yet known, some places in Mumbai will also have this facility, Uber claimed.
Uber India and South Asia’s spokesperson commented,” Sustainability should not be complicated; it should be effortless”. He additionally expressed how the citizens of the country can benefit and become conscious of the importance of remaining in a green environment. With Uber’s step to leave the choice of choosing the type of ride to the riders, it has included its customers’ contribution in making the country reach Carbon Neutrality.
Uber has committed to making its fleet completely electric by the year 2040 globally. Before that it plans to go carbon neutral by 2030 in Europe and North America. Since 2022, Uber has offered its electric cab services to 31 million Unique customers. It has also tripled the number of EVs in its fleet compared to last year.
Conclusion
This is the first of Uber’s initiatives. After seeing the response from the customers, it might expand its services to other airports or states. India is planning to be Carbon Neutral by the end of the year 2070 and has started making decisive steps to achieve so.
The country is promoting people to invest in Electric vehicles, EV charging stations, Renewable energy generation and other things to become carbon neutral. Companies like Uber, whose services include lakhs of CNG/petrol-driven cars running on roads daily taking the initiative to become carbon neutral will surely benefit the country.
