The UK’s Parliamentary Under Secretary, Vicky Ford of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, touched on her discussion with the Government of Sri Lanka amid recent Sri Lankan protests.
UK Parliament express concern over protests
The United Kingdom has expressed its concerns over the recent Sri Lankan protests in Rambukkana and the unfortunate life losses. They are advising and encouraging each side to resolve the political and economic disputes with an amiable and democratic outlook.
Vicky Ford also told the Parliament of the United Kingdom about Lord Ahmad’s recent trip before the Sri Lankan protests. Their main topic of discussion with the government of Sri Lanka was their mutual concern about human rights.
In his talks, Lord (Tariq) Ahmad of Wimbledon raised the importance of better human rights. He emphasised the need to deliver justice and accountability.
Lord Ahmad urged the Sri Lankan President to protect the right to protest in peace. The Minister of State for South Asia also encouraged him to promptly cease the violent Sri Lankan protests.
UK High Commissioner to Sri Lanka calls for a thorough probe
The High Commissioner of United Kingdom to Sri Lanka had a meeting with Human Rights Commission of Sr Lanka. On 20th April, he had called for a thorough probe into the unfortunate losses of life during Sri Lankan protests.
