Ukraine’s city of Kramatorsk was struck by two Russian missiles on Tuesday and killed at least 4 individuals, as per the police officials and the rescue team.
As per the Ukraine’s Kramatorsk city council, a child was among the deceased, and 42 individuals sustained injuries at the restaurant. The city has been recurrently subjected to Russian attacks. In addition, a second missile struck a village outskirt of Kramatorsk, resulting in five injuries. As per the Ukrainian police, the city was targeted by Russia with the firing of two S-300 surface-to-air missiles.
Located in Ukraine’s Donetsk province, Kramatorsk is a significant urban center positioned to the west of the front lines. Given its strategic location, it is highly probable that in any Russian advancement towards the western direction to seize control of the entire region, Kramatorsk would be a significant target.
Within Ukraine, the city of Kramatorsk has been subjected to recurrent assaults from Russia, with one notable incident occurring in April 2022 when the town’s railway station was targeted. Regrettably, this strike resulted in the tragic loss of 63 lives.
In Ukraine, a year after a deadly attack that claimed at least 20 lives at a shopping mall in Kremenchuk, a Russian missile struck a group of buildings there, located approximately 375 km (230 miles) west in central Ukraine. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this recent attack.
Russia, since its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has consistently denied deliberately targeting civilian sites, referring to its actions as a “special military operation.”
According to Pavlo Kyrylenko, the governor of Donetsk, two rockets of Russian origin have impacted the city, which was previously inhabited by 150,000 people. This city stands as one of the largest urban centers still under Ukrainian control in the besieged eastern region of the country.
As a result of the strike on the city, several nearby buildings sustained damage. Kramatorsk, situated approximately 30 kilometers (18 miles) away from the front line, has been a frequent target of Russian attacks since their invasion in February 2022.
Ukraine’s Civil Forces Spring into Action
At the location, a crowd swiftly assembled at the scene where fires raged on, while soldiers and rescue workers diligently scoured the area in search of additional casualties.
Emergency services were frantically moving back and forth within the devastated restaurant in Ukraine, while onlookers stood outside assessing the destruction caused by the incident that took place shortly before 8 p.m. local time.
Law enforcement officers and military personnel emerged from the Ukraine building, which had been reduced to a chaotic tangle of twisted metal beams. Among them were police officers and soldiers, carefully transporting a stretcher that held a man dressed in military trousers and boots. The person was then loaded into an ambulance, although it remained uncertain whether they were still alive.
AFP promptly entered the restaurant to help the rescue workers. According to their report, a girl was trapped and injured, and efforts to extricate her from the situation were still ongoing.
