Hyderabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is all set to attend the Telangana ‘Liberation Day’ celebration in Hyderabad on September 17. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy shared this exciting news on Tuesday.
Now, here’s the thing: the event is going to be organised by the Centre, and they’ve chosen the Parade Ground as the venue.
Why is this day so special, you ask? On September 17, 1948, the Hyderabad State joined the Indian Union. To mark this significant day, the Centre held an official function right here in Hyderabad last year, and guess who was there? Yep, Amit Shah himself. So, it looks like this year’s celebration will be another memorable one!
Upcoming Visit by Amit Shah to Telangana and Special Events
“Remember what we discussed in that meeting last year? Well, Amit Shah is coming to Hyderabad again this year. We’re keeping the event at the same place,” Mr Reddy, who’s also the Telangana BJP president, shared with reporters.
He mentioned that another event would take place at Rashtrapati Nilayam in Hyderabad, which is one of the Presidential Retreats. Interestingly, President Droupadi Murmu will be joining us virtually for that.
And guess what? Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan is also going to be a part of the program.
During his visit, Mr. Shah plans to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who fought against Nizam’s army and the Razakars (those who supported Nizam’s rule). Oh, and he’ll also be raising the national flag at the Parade Ground event.”
Mr Shah is going to get a guard of honour from the paramilitary forces before he gives his speech. That’s what he mentioned.
Mr Reddy was talking about how the Nizam, who ruled before, tried to make everything more Islamic in his area. He also said that the ‘Razakars’ did bad things to Hindus during that time.
He criticized the Congress and the current BRS government for not officially celebrating ‘Liberation Day’ on September 17.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had some strong words for the previous Congress Chief Minister K Rosaiah in the past. He didn’t like that Rosaiah didn’t officially celebrate the day. But when Rao came into power in Telangana, he also didn’t have a government event for it because he was influenced by AIMIM, according to Mr Reddy.
Controversy Surrounds Celebration of September 17th in Telangana
“KCR, you see, is quite the opportunist. He didn’t follow through on his promise,” he pointed out.
The chief minister got quite upset when the Centre announced last year that they’d hold an official event to celebrate this day. So, in response, he declared it would be a ‘national integration day,” he explained.
But here’s the thing, he questioned, “How can it be integration day? Don’t the sacrifices of our freedom fighters count? Wasn’t it true that people, young and old, even had to use chilli powder and whatnot to protect themselves during Nizam’s rule?”
He didn’t hold back on the Congress either, accusing them of brushing aside the history of the “liberation” of the old Hyderabad State when they were in charge.
Mr. Reddy didn’t forget to call out the chief minister for not attending the celebration organized by the Centre last September 17.
