On 4th April 2022, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath launched ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ with the aim of 100 per cent admission of students in primary and upper primary schools in the state. The Abhiyan was started in the district with the lowest literacy rate, Shravasti, UP and will continue for the next one month.
Under the campaign, the students would be provided with uniforms, shoes and socks.
While addressing the gathering, the UP CM directed all the government schools to offer basic facilities such as toilets, drinking water, furniture and smart classes for students. The CM said that due to the absence of these facilities, the dropout rate is increasing in the state.
He appealed to all, including officials, public representatives and MLAs to associate themselves with ‘Operation Kayakalp’ and adopt a school each to revamp the schools in the state.
Adityanath further said that in 2017 around 1.34 crore students enrolled in basic education schools but the situation was mismanaged. He added that in three years, till 2019, the enrollment of students in schools was increased to 1.80 crore and free books, uniforms sets, shoes, socks and sweaters were provided to students.
