The sixth round of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections ended on Thursday, with more than 55% of eligible voters going to the polls.Ā Ā
In this phase, 2.15 crore people were eligible to utilize their vote. The voting process was essentially smooth.Ā Ā
This concludes polling for 349 of the total 403 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh.Ā
In the sixth round, 57 seats in ten districts ā Gorakhpur, Ballia, Kushinagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, and Deoria ā went to the elections.Ā Ā
On Thursday, polls determined the fates of political superstars like Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Congress’ Ajay Kumar Lallu, and Samajwadi Party’s Swami Prasad Maurya since they were the prominent leaders contesting.Ā
Adityanath campaigned for his debut Assembly election from Gorakhpur Urban. In contrast, state Congress president Lallu ran from Tamkuhi Raj while Swami Prasad Maurya, who left the BJP to join the Samajwadi Party, ran from Fazilnagar.Ā Ā
Among the 676 contestants in the sixth phase of elections, numerous incumbent ministers’ electoral destiny during this round was also decided. Surya Pratap Shahi stood as a face from Pathardeva, Satish Chandra Dwivedi is from Iowa, Jai Pratap Singh is from Bansi, Shree Ram Chauhan is from Khajani, and Jai Prakash Nishad is from Rudrapur.Ā
For BJP, these 57 assembly segments distributed across ten districts are pretty significant. The BJP would receive 80% of the vote, with the remaining 20% shared among the opposition, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said this morning while addressing the media.Ā
Ā It had secured 46 of these seats in the 2017 assembly elections.Ā
The widow of veteran BJP leader Upendra Dutt Shukla opposed Yogi Adityanath by the Samajwadi Party. Chandrashekhar Azad, the founder of the Azad Samaj Party, also ran against UP’s CM in Gorakhpur.Ā
On February 27, a turnout of 55.76 per cent was achieved in the fifth round of the UP-Assembly elections for 61 seats distributed across 12 districts. The seventh and final phase will take place on March 7, with the results being announced on March 10.Ā

Political parties unleashed all-out attacks on each other while campaigning for this round in the politically crucial state.Ā
Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the BJP’s opponents, referring to them as dynasties who can never make India competent or empower Uttar Pradesh. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress general secretary, reacted, claiming the BJP is just after her family, which has never been submitted previously.Ā Ā
Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, charged the BJP with scheming to remove reservations and “selling” government enterprises to the private sector.Ā Ā
Mamta Banerjee also criticized the BJP government and CM Yogi from Varanasi. She described Akhilesh Yadav as her “Chhota Bhai” while asking the voters to push BJP away from the rule by saying, “Ek Dhakka aur do.”Ā
People held black flags at the TMC chief and asked her to go back, to which she responded that it shows that BJP might soon be out of power.Ā
West Bengal’s CM, Mamta Banerjee, ended her speech by saying, “Khela Hobe… challenge BJP Ke Sath” (The game is on with the BJP), as she tossed a football into the crowd and asked them to pass it on as a symbol to vote against the BJP.Ā
