In Gurugram, a distressing incident unfolded as a 19-year-old man was abducted from a local gym. The perpetrators, comprising at least six individuals, subjected him to a brutal assault and subsequently demanded a ransom of 10 lakh. The victim, in a bid to secure his release, made a promise to pay the demanded amount within a week. The shocking nature of the incident came to public attention when a video capturing the assault began circulating on various social media platforms. In response, the authorities promptly registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the suspects, some of whom are believed to be involved in drug addiction. Notices have been issued to the accused individuals; however, it has been reported that a few of them are currently evading capture.
Moksha Dagar, a student at a private university in Sector 53, became a victim of a crime on the night of May 31. After leaving the gym, he entered his car when five individuals, including some members of the same gym, approached his vehicle. They began inquiring about the car’s alloy wheels, police said.
According to investigators, upon Dagar rolling down his window, the suspects swiftly invaded his vehicle, overpowering him by force. Subsequently, additional suspects arrived at the scene in an SUV, where they transported him to a remote location near Signature Tower and subjected him to physical assault. However, upon noticing some pedestrians nearby, they relocated to another isolated area in Sector 29.
According to investigators, the individuals exerted pressure on him, demanding a payment of ₹10 lakh and issuing severe threats. Eventually, they released him on a road close to the Signature Tower after he assured them that he would fulfill the payment within a week, as stated by the police.
The victim remained silent about his harrowing experience for an entire week due to fear. It was only when a video capturing his assault, which the perpetrators had recorded, began circulating on various social media platforms, and one of his close friends stumbled upon it, that he finally decided to approach the authorities, police added.
Police said, Dagar lodged a written complaint at the Civil Lines police station, resulting in the registration of an FIR against the individuals involved. The charges filed against the suspects include Section 147 (rioting), Section 149 (unlawful assembly), Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 365 (abduction), Section 384 (extortion), and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). This action took place on Wednesday, as stated by the authorities.
According to Vijay Dagar, the father of the victim said, “To the best of my knowledge, the individuals involved are drug addicts.”
Notices have been issued to the suspects, although it has been discovered that some of them are currently evading capture. “We are actively pursuing their apprehension and intend to arrest them as soon as possible.” Subhash Boken, the public relations officer of Gurugram police said.
