Sourav Ganguly realizes the importance of Virat Kohli playing his 100th test on Friday, but the BCCI president and former national captain are confident that the superstar batter will go on to even greater heights in his career.
In a video message sent on the BCCI’s official Twitter account, Ganguly lauded Kohli, stating that playing against Sri Lanka in the first Test here would be a dream come true for him.

Kohli, 33, would join Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, and Ishant Sharma as the 12th Indian batsman to play 100 Test matches.
“It’s a tremendous event for Virat, and it’s a watershed moment for Indian cricket,” Ganguly said in his message. “I’ve been in that 100-test match situation before, and I understand how important and historic it can be.”
Virat’s 11-year journey has been packed with great achievements as he rose through the ranks to become one of India’s best Test captains. He was instrumental in India’s series victory in Australia and England, which they lead 2-1.
As a former captain who has played 100 Tests, I wish him the best of luck on behalf of the BCCI. He’s had a fantastic career. We congratulate him, his family, his coach, and everyone else who played cricket with him. “He still has time to attain higher ambitions,” said the batter in front of him.
Kohli and Ganguly have had a few difficult months, with the former’s captaincy coming to an end. Ganguly said that Kohli resigned as T20 captain despite demands to remain, but Kohli stated that no such request was made to him when he originally expressed his wish to stand down.
Following a series of defeats to South Africa in January, he was removed from the ODI leadership before resigning from the Test captaincy.
