Current India’s head coach and the former Indian caption Rahul Dravid felicitate Virat Kohli with a special cap for completing his 100-test match ahead of the India-Sri Lanka Test Match on Friday.
A short ceremony was organised in presence of all Indian players and Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma at IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. He became the only 12th player to reach the milestone on the first day of the India-Sri Lanka Test match series.
Before presenting the cap to Kohli, the former Indian captain gave a speech dedicating Kohli. He said, “it’s a testament to everything that is great in our sport… sweat, discipline, courage, skill, determination, desire, focus, you had it all. You had a great journey. You can be very proud of not only playing the 100th Test match but also for the great journey that you have navigated through. Congratulations to you and your family on this fantastic achievement. It’s well deserved, well earned, and hopefully, it is just the start of many things to come. As we say in the dressing room, double it up.”
The new Achiever thanked his family and the BCCI on this notable occasion.
He said that it was a special moment for him. His wife and his fellow cricketer whom he termed as brother were present there and everyone was very proud.
He further said, Cricket is indeed a team game and it couldn’t have been possible without everyone. He Thanked the BCCI. “In present-day cricket, with the amount we play with three formats and an IPL, the one takeaway the next generation can take from me is that I played 100 games in the purest format.”
In 99 Tests so far, Kohli has piled up 7962 runs in 168 innings at an average of 50.39. He has also slammed 27 centuries and 28 half-centuries. Out of his 27 hundred, 7 are double tons.
Along with the 33-year-old batsman, the facilitator Rahul Dravid had also played 100 Test matches. Apart from these two Indian cricketers Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Ishant Sharma had also played 100 Tests.
