Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner Group, is supposedly dead in a plane crash near Moscow in the Tver region on Wednesday, August 23. This occurrence follows roughly two months after his private military organization’s armed uprising against the Russian authorities.
The Wagner Group’s head, Yevgeny Prigozhin, had declared his determination to take extreme measures in order to overthrow Moscow’s military leadership due to their management of the war. Prigozhin had also alleged that his own allies have subjected his forces to artillery attacks.
‘Unsurprised & Inevitable’ death of Yevgeny Prigozhin
Reports of the demise of Russian mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin in a plane crash did not catch US President Joe Biden off guard. The White House confirmed that Biden had been briefed about the crash, and during a press interaction, he expressed that while he lacked concrete information about the incident, he was not taken aback by the news.
“I’m not caught off guard,” remarked Biden.”Given the prevalent pattern in Russia, many events are influenced by Putin’s involvement, yet I lack sufficient details to confirm.”
Speaking with the BBC, Christopher Steele, the former leader of Britain’s foreign intelligence agency’s Russia desk stated that Prigozhin’s death was ‘inevitable’, Putin’s lesson for disloyalty.
Former Spy Alleges Contract Targeting Prigozhin Within Russia
A former British intelligence agent shared that he had prior knowledge of a contract being issued for the targeting of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner Group. Christopher Steele told Sky News that several weeks ago, a source had informed them that senior members of the business community in Russia had initiated this contract.
“But certainly it looks as though it may well be a revenge attack by somebody in the elite, possibly somebody very senior,” he added.
